Karan Brar (born January 18, 1999) is an actor from the United States. He starred as Chirag Gupta in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid film franchise and as Ravi Ross in the Disney Channel Original Series Jessie and its spin-off Bunk'd.
Early years
Karan Brar was born on January 18, 1999, in Redmond, Washington, to Indian parents. He grew up in Bothell, Washington, and has one older sister named Sabreena. Brar went to Cedar Wood Elementary School and took acting classes with John Robert Powers and Patti Kalles.
Career
Brar made his acting debut at the age of 11 in the comedy feature film Diary of a Wimpy Kid as Indian middle schooler Chirag Gupta. Brar has a natural American accent, but he worked with a dialect coach to perfect his Indian accent for the role.
Brar reprised his role as Chirag Gupta in the feature film sequel Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules in March 2011. It was announced in October 2011 that he would reprise his role as Chirag in the third installment of the Wimpy Kid franchise, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, which was released on August 3, 2012. He appeared in the Seeds of Compassion advertisement campaign announcing the Dalai Lama's visit to Seattle in April 2010, as well as commercials for Shell Gasoline and Committee for Children.
In September 2011, Brar debuted as Ravi Ross, a 10-year-old Indian adoptee, on the Disney Channel comedy series Jessie. The role of Ravi was originally intended to be played by a Hispanic boy named Javier from South America during the show's pre-production, but casting directors were impressed with Brar during the audition process and decided to recreate the role for him.
In February 2015, a new Disney Channel series Bunk'd, a Jessie spin-off, was announced, with Brar reprising his role as Ravi Ross. That same year, he starred as George in the Disney Channel Original Movie Invisible Sister. He appeared in the science fiction film Pacific Rim Uprising in 2018.
Brar lived in the Los Angeles area with his parents and older sister until May 2019, when he moved in with fellow actors Cameron Boyce and Sophie Reynolds.
