In talks to play the Wizard in the Wicked films alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo is Jeff Goldblum.

Perhaps Jeff Goldblum will visit the Land of Oz.

According to a report from Variety on Friday, Goldblum, 70, is "final talks" to play the Wizard in the future motion picture versions of the popular musical Wicked.

The actor from Jurassic Park would join a star-studded cast, led by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the Jon M. Chu-directed musical, despite the fact that his part has not yet been confirmed.

A request for comment from PEOPLE was not immediately answered by Universal Pictures or Goldblum's agents.

The Tony-winning Broadway production's adaption, which is based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, will diverge slightly from the stage production, but 42-year-old Chu has pledged to remain true to the story's core.
Chu said that "a broader canvas" would provide the creative team the ability to include as many musical numbers and characters as possible. "With greater space, we can tell the narrative of WICKED as it was meant to be told," Chu remarked at the time.
On September 21, it was revealed that Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey would be playing Fiyero, the musical's central love interest.

During the casting announcement for Bailey, Chu posted on Twitter, "He's perfect, they're perfect." "They'd make the ideal couple. Born to last a lifetime... I can't pretend this hasn't been occurring because I'm too excited. The Fiyero has arrived! #JonathanBailey #Wicked."
Grande, 29, published a collection of images from the cast's rehearsals on Instagram on October 11.

In the images and videos that Grande posted, Erivo, 35, as well as the choreographer Will Loftis, the musical director Stephen Oremus, and the dancers Christopher Scott, Leah Hill, and Comfort Fedoke, were all tagged.

Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, and Joel Grey were the original cast members playing Elphaba, Glinda, and the Wizard, respectively, when Wicked had its Broadway debut in October 2003.

Elphaba's existence before becoming known as the Wicked Witch of the West in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is depicted in the book/musical (which was later adapted into the classic 1939 film starring Judy Garland).

The original Broadway performance was the recipient of a Grammy Award, three Tony Awards, and six Drama Desk Awards.

According to the website for Universal Pictures, Wicked Part 1 will debut in theatres on December 25, 2024, while the follow-up is planned for release on January 25 of the following year.
