Alex Shaffer Wiki, Age, Biography, Height, Wife, Family, Images, And More

Alex Shaffer (born August 23, 1993) is an American actor best known for his role in the 2011 film Win Win as Kyle Timmons, a troubled adolescent and wrestling prodigy.

Life and work

Shaffer grew up in Raritan Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He was a sophomore at Hunterdon Central Regional High School when he was cast as a young wrestler in the film Win Win after a classmate informed him about the film's auditions for an athlete-wrestler. Shaffer had been a successful high school wrestler, winning the New Jersey State Wrestling Championship at 119 pounds as a sophomore in 2010, but his wrestling career was cut short when he broke his L-5 vertebra.

Shaffer's feature film debut received acclaim. Roger Ebert called his performance "effortlessly convincing." Shaffer, who bleached his hair for the role, "plays the reserved and withdrawn Kyle to perfection," according to film critic Brandon Fibbs. Tom McCarthy, the film director, stated: "I knew if the kid we cast had never wrestled, he couldn't fake it, at least not at the level we wanted Kyle to be. The wonderful thing about Alex is that he embodies all of the characteristics of a 16-year-old boy. He seemed so genuine to me. We put him through a lot on this film, and he just kept getting better and better." "You know, this monosyllabic shut-down character we all know and love so much, which is very difficult to bring to the screen actually, as you run the risk of the character being flat, but he [Alex Shaffer] found a way in his directness to be very charming," he said in an interview with PBS.

Shaffer decided to pursue acting professionally after the success of Win Win. In 2013, he co-starred in the Sundance indie The Lifeguard with Kristen Bell and Martin Starr. He also appears in Runoff, an independent film directed and written by Kimberly Levin. He played Squirrel in the 2015 film We Are Your Friends, directed by Max Joseph and starring Zac Efron. Simultaneously, he filled in for Joseph as a guest host on the MTV series Catfish: The TV Show.

Shaffer portrayed board and dirt track racer Albert "Shrimp" Burns in the Discovery Channel docudrama Harley and the Davidsons in 2016.
