Versace Resort 2019 Spring

Versace Resort 2019 Spring

Given official trend status by none other than Donatella Versace in her strong and diverse spring collection, satin cargo pants are now in.

The event began with Gigi Hadid leading a group of witchy women around a dark purple set decorated with thousands of tall black candles while wearing a long, hooded jersey dress and towering platforms. (Anna Sui would wholeheartedly endorse the decor.)

The press notes describe the outfit as "dark gothic goddess," and Versace said she "always adored a rebel - a woman who is confident, intellectual, and a little bit of a diva." With her chin raised high and one hand on her hip, Paris Hilton ended the exhibition while donning a metallic pink jersey minidress and a veil. She could have been wearing sneakers instead of the blade-like five-inch heel on her pointed heels.

This Versace collection featured more black than usual, and it looked terrific. You can always rely on Donatella to deliver the fiercest, skinniest, stiletto-swallowing pants—in this case, with a leather fringe curtain swishing over the derriere. A mix of slash-front tops, micro leather miniskirts, and lace baby doll dresses with tiaras were worn with bulky biker jackets that sparkled with gold studs.

Purple and fuchsia served up as slinky, virtually translucent knit dresses—another Milanese favourite this season—and bolder, more bohemian ensembles mixing zebra and floral designs were the primary alternatives. The more streamlined attire seemed more credible because of its hard-edged glamour.

Observing the guests arrive at the event provided as a reminder of how Versace, now owned by Capri Holdings, has recently improved the quality of her footwear. Many walked around in her avant-garde satin Medusa platforms from the autumn collection.

For spring, there were industrial-strength Mary Janes with a big rubber platform sole for club divas and sleek boots with wedge heels like a Richard Serra sculpture.
