Sofya Andreyevna Arzhakovskaya (born 12 August 1987), professionally known as Sofya Skya (occasionally Sofya Skaya) (Russian: о ка), is a Russian actress, ballet dancer, and acting instructor.
Skya was born in Leningrad, Russian Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union (now Saint Petersburg, Russia). Emma Shchetinina, her grandmother, was a well-known harpist and teacher, and her grandpa, Mark Fliderman, was the concertmaster of Russia's State Academic Symphony Orchestra.
Skya began taking dancing lessons at an early age and joined at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet when she was nine years old. She came to Ufa at the age of twelve to further her ballet studies. She received her diploma from the Bashkir Choreographic College. Skya was a main dancer at the Bashkortostan State Opera and Ballet Theatre, where she performed solo in ballets such as Swan Lake, La Bayadère, Snow White, La Esmeralda, and Raymonda.
Skya won a number of beauty pageants. She won the "Russian Grace" contest in 2005 and launched the third Vienna Opera Ball charity event in Moscow. She won the "Mrs World" pageant in Saint Petersburg in 2006.
She gave birth to a son in 2015.
Sofya Skya began her acting career in 2008, when she enrolled in a professional acting study with Lisa Melillo at the Baron Brown Studio in Los Angeles. In addition, at Larry Moss Official Studio, I worked with celebrity trainer Michelle Danner to improve my talents.
Skya starred as a desperate mother in John Kent Harrison's 2008 film The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler. She received her first leading part in The Tomb, a film based on Edgar Allan Poe's Ligeia that starred Wes Bentley and Eric Roberts, in 2009.
Following her participation in those films, she was cast in Limelight (2009) and Shadows in Paradise (2010), both of which she co-starred with Mark Dacascos. She also participated in the Russian comedy Klub Schast'ya in 2010, which helped her gain famous in Russia.
Skya co-starred with Christian Slater and Cole Hauser in the 2013 film Assassins Run (also known as White Swan), directed by Robert Crombie. Skya presided over the opening ceremony of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival in June 2013.
She also acted in the American thriller My Stepdaughter (2015), the Ali Zamani-directed drama Opus of an Angel (2017), and the British thriller Welcome to Curiosity (2018).
In 2019, she co-starred with Ben Cross in the historical drama film Once There Was a War. The film, directed by Bulgarian Anri Kulev, is about the 14-day battle between Serbia and Bulgaria in 1885. Skya portrayed Countess Anastasia Golovina, a Russian physician. The film was screened as part of the special program "Russian Trace" at the 42nd Moscow International Film Festival in Russia in 2020.
Other pursuits
Skya performed a tsaritsa Syuyumbike dance at the opening ceremony of the XXVII Summer Universiade in Kazan in 2013. She participates in charitable activities such as "Meet For Charity."
