Nithin Kumar Reddy (born March 30, 1983), professionally known as Nithiin, is an Indian actor and producer who works primarily in Telugu films. Nithiin made his acting debut in the 2002 romantic action film Jayam, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut - South and the CineMAA Award for Best Male Debut.
Nithiin then appeared in the films Dil (2003), Sye, and Sri Anjaneyam (2004). For Sri Anjaneyam, he won the Santosham Film Awards for Best Young Performer. After a string of commercial failures, Nithiin found success with the romance films Ishq (2012) and Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde (2013), for which he received Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actor - Telugu. He rose to prominence with films such as Heart Attack (2014), A Aa (2016), and Bheeshma (2020). For the latter two, he received SIIMA Award nominations for Best Actor - Telugu.
Nithiin founded his own film production company, Shresht Movies, in 2013. Nithiin is a Telangana brand ambassador for the Swachh Bharat campaign.
Background and early life
Nithin Kumar Reddy was born on March 30, 1983, in Hyderabad, India, to film distributor Sudhakar Reddy and Laxmi Reddy. His elder sister's name is Nikitha Reddy. He attended Geetanjali School in Begumpet, Ratna Junior College for his intermediate education, and Shadan College of Engineering and Technology in Gandipet for his graduation. His father later became a producer and collaborated with him on two films, Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde and Chinnadana Nee Kosam. Nithin has added an extra I to his name, making it Nithiin.
Career
First appearance and early success (2002-2004)
Nithiin began his career in 2002 with the Teja-directed film Jayam. On two occasions, director Teja saw him at Sudarshan 35 mm theatre during a screening of his film Nuvvu Nenu. Teja then enquired about his acting interest, conducted a screen test and photo session, and chose him as the lead for his directorial and production venture Jayam, which also starred Sadha and Gopichand. Nithiin appeared in the 2003 film Dil, directed by V. V. Vinayak. Dil Raju produced the film. Later that year, Nithiin appeared in the Dasarath-directed film Sambaram. K. In 2004, Nithiin played a devotee of Lord Hanuman in the film Sri Anjaneyam, directed by Krishna Vamsi. This is also the first film in which Nithiin dubbed his dialogues, which had previously been voiced by Sivaji.
Failures in a row (2005-2011)
Following the success of his 2004 film Sye, directed by S. Nithin has appeared in a number of films directed by S. Rajamouli, including Dhairyam, Agyaat, and Seeta Ramula Kalyanam. None of these films, however, were commercially successful. Nithiin also holds the record for having the most consecutive flops (12) of any Telugu actor. After many years, he achieved success with the 2012 romantic drama film Ishq, directed by Vikram Kumar.
Stardom and a comeback (2012-2016)
Nithiin co-starred with Nithya Menen in Ishq, which was also co-produced by his father Sudhakar Reddy. In 2013, he appeared in the film Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde. Along with Nithiin, Isha Talwar and Nithya Menen played the lead roles. Later, he appeared in the film Chinnadana Nee Kosam, written and directed by A. N. Karunakaran produced Karunakaran in 2014. Sresht Movies is run by Sudhakar Reddy and his sister Nikhita Reddy. Later that year, he starred in Puri Jagannadh's film Heart Attack. He played a hippie in the film, which received mixed reviews. He played a courier boy in the 2015 film Courier Boy Kalyan, directed by Premsai and produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Nithiin appeared in Trivikram Srinivas's 2016 film A Aa, alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Anupama Parameswaran. The film became Nithin's highest-grossing film.
Recent work and future plans (2017–present)
Nithiin appeared in the 2017 film LIE, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. It received mixed reviews from critics and did poorly at the box office. Nithiin's Chal Mohan Ranga, directed by Krishna Chaitanya and starring Megha Akash, was released in 2018. The movie did poorly at the box office. Later that year, he appeared in Srinivasa Kalyanam, directed by Satish Vegesna and starring opposite Raashi Khanna. Bheeshma, directed by Venky Kudumula and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, was a commercial success in 2020.
Check (2021), starring Rakul Preet Singh and Priya Prakash Varrier, was Nithiin's first collaboration with director Chandra Sekhar Yeleti. Rang De, directed by Venky Atluri and starring Keerthy Suresh, was his second release of the year. His third release of the year was the black comedy crime thriller Maestro, which will be available on Disney+ Hotstar on September 17, 2021. He played a pianist, and critics praised his performance in the film, which is a remake of the Hindi film Andhadhun. He began filming for his next film, Macherla Niyojakavargam, in September 2021.
Private life
Nithiin married his girlfriend Shalini Kandukuri in 2020. Their wedding took place at Hyderabad's Falaknuma Palace.
