Nicholas John Robinson (born March 22, 1995) is an actor from the United States. He first appeared as a child in a 2008 stage production of A Christmas Carol and Mame, and then in the television sitcom Melissa & Joey (2010–2015). He went on to play a supporting role in Jurassic World (2015) and lead roles in several teen dramas, including The Kings of Summer (2013), The 5th Wave (2016), Everything, Everything (2017), and Love, Simon (2017). (2018). Since then, he has appeared in the miniseries A Teacher (2020) and Maid (2021).

Robinson was named to Forbes' "30 Under 30" list in the category of Hollywood & Entertainment in 2018.

Robinson was born in Seattle, Washington, on March 22, 1995. He has four younger brothers and sisters. Denise Podnar is his mother's name. Robinson began his education at Seattle Preparatory School, but left in the middle of his freshman year to pursue a regular role on Melissa & Joey. In 2013, he graduated from Campbell Hall School. He was accepted to the College of Arts and Sciences at New York University, where he spent the summer working on another season of Melissa & Joey.

Career

At the age of eleven, Robinson made his professional acting debut in a stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel A Christmas Carol. Talent scout Matt Casella recommended Robinson to a few agencies, and he eventually signed with the Savage Agency in Los Angeles. Due to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007-2008, Robinson's family relocated to Washington, where he continued to perform on stage in and around Seattle.

Robinson was cast in the role of Ryder Scanlon, the nephew of Melissa Joan Hart's character, on the ABC Family sitcom Melissa & Joey in 2010, and remained in the role until the show's cancellation in 2015.

While on leave from Melissa & Joey, Robinson began filming for the Disney Channel original film Frenemies, in which he played Jake Logan. Frenemies premiered on the Disney Channel in January 2012.

Robinson was cast as Joe Toy in director Jordan Vogt-Roberts' 2012 film The Kings of Summer. He also appeared in the episode "Blue Bell Boy" from HBO's Boardwalk Empire's third season. He also began appearing in a series of Cox Communications television commercials titled "Buffer Time is Bonding Time."

Robinson was well-known for his role as Zach Mitchell in Jurassic World in 2015. In January 2016, he portrayed Ben Parish in the film adaptation of the novel The 5th Wave, which was released. Because of these commitments, he was unavailable for several episodes of Melissa & Joey's final season, but he returned for the final three.

He starred in Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical film about director Rob Reiner's relationship with his son that premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and was released theatrically in 2016.

In 2017, he starred in William H. Macy's comedy-drama film Krystal, as well as as Olly in Everything, Everything, a film adaptation of the same name.

Robinson starred as the titular Simon Spier in the 2018 gay teen drama film Love, Simon. The film was groundbreaking because it was the first major studio film to centre on a gay, adolescent romance. Robinson's performance as Simon was praised by critics. Robinson revealed after reading the script that he broke his own rule of not playing high schoolers because he recognised the film's cultural significance. He co-starred in the third film adaptation of Richard Wright's Native Son in 2019.

Robinson co-starred in the FX miniseries A Teacher in 2020, and he narrated his DM responses to the protagonist of Love, Victor, a Love, Simon spinoff TV series on Hulu, in which he also appeared in two episodes. He appeared in the Netflix miniseries Maid in 2021, alongside Margaret Qualley and Andie MacDowell. The series was critically acclaimed, and Robinson's performance was lauded.
