Maria Vasilievna Shukshina (Russian: ари асилевна укина; born May 27, 1967) is a Russian actress. Burnt by the Sun 2: Exodus (2010), Bury Me Behind the Baseboard (2009), and American Daughter (1995) are among her cinematic credits. Dear Masha Berezina [ru] (2004), Take me with You (2008), and McMafia (2018) are among her television credits. She hosted the Channel One Russia show Wait for Me and served on the Minute of Fame judging panel.
Biography
Childhood and education
Maria Shukshina was born in Moscow, the daughter of Russian writer, film director, and actor Vasily Shukshin and Lidiya Fedoseyeva-Shukshina. Anastasia, her older half-sister, and Olga, her younger sister, are both actresses.
She graduated from Moscow's Institute of Foreign Languages' translation department. She worked as an interpreter and broker on the Russian commodity exchange after graduating from the institute.
Career in film and television
Shukshina made her cinematic debut in 1969, at the age of one and a half years, in the segment "Brother" of Vasily Shukshin's anthology film Strange People. Masha, along with her sister Olga, played the Rastorguev family's girls in the film Happy Go Lucky when she was five years old.
Two years later, the actress returned to the big screen. In the film Birds Over the City, directed by Sergei Nikonenko, she played Vishnyak's daughter.
Maria Shukshina appeared in several hit films in the mid-1990s. In Karen Shakhnazarov's 1995 film American Daughter, she plays a realistic and unfeeling businesswoman who flees her husband and her small daughter to America. In the same year, Shukshina acted in Pyotr Todorovsky's film What a Wonderful Game as Maria, a gorgeous student who, without hesitation, passes out her peers to state security agents.
In the early 2000s, Alla Surikova appeared in the comedy television series Perfect Couple as a journalist who interviewed Armen Dzhigarkhanyan.
Maria played the lead in Vsevolod Shilovsky's People and Shadows: The Secrets of the Puppet Theater (2001).
