(2015).
Lee was born on January 9, 1988, in Seoul, South Korea. Lee signed a contract with SM in 2002 after winning the category of "Best Feature" in the SM Entertainment Best Youth contest. She performed a monologue, sang "Until the End of the World" to Dana, and did freestyle modelling poses for the competition. She began intensive training lessons in acting, singing, and dancing after joining the company.
2002-2006: Beginnings of a Career
Soon after joining SM, Lee began her career by starring in music videos for SM artists such as boy band TVXQ, Moon Hee-jun, Kangta, Shinhwa, and Fly to the Sky, quickly surpassing SM artists Kim Bomi (of M.I.L.K.) and Lee Jiyeon (commonly known as CSJH The Grace's Lina).
Despite having a steady stream of work in magazines, commercials, and music videos, Lee did not make her official debut until late 2004. She appeared in the final episodes of the daily drama My Lovely Family in November 2004 as the younger version of the main character in the hit historical drama Emperor of the Sea. Lee made her television debut in the MBC miniseries One Fine Day (2006).
Rising popularity and acting criticism from 2007 to 2012.
Lee co-starred in the 2007 romance melodrama A Millionaire's First Love with Hyun Bin. For the film, she also made her singing debut, singing "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music and Insa for the original soundtrack. Lee's portrayal of innocence in the film earned her the title "Nation's First Love" in Korea. Lee then starred in the moderately successful film M with Kang Dong-won, and in the short film U-Turn with So Ji-sub.
She appeared as one of the main cast members in the 47th MBC Anniversary Project East of Eden in 2008. Despite the success of the drama, her performance in the series received widespread criticism for her vocalisation, unexpressive facial expressions, and unnatural emotional expression as problems in portraying her character. Lee made a comeback in the film Hello, Schoolgirl, co-starring with Yoo Ji-tae. The plot is based on Kang Pool's manhwa Soonjeong Manhwa.
Lee appeared in Kang Je-big gyu's budget historical film My Way in 2011, alongside Jang Dong-gun, Joe Odagiri, and Fan Bing-bing, and in S.M. Entertainment's romance comedy series Paradise Ranch alongside label-mate Shim Chang-min of boy band TVXQ. Lee reunited with U-Turn co-star So Ji-sub in the crime thriller Phantom in 2012. In 2012, the National Police Agency named Lee and So promotional ambassadors for cyber crime prevention.
2013–present: Resurgent career and continued success
Lee made a special appearance in the historical drama Gu Family Book in 2013, where she received praise for her acting development. She then starred in the romantic comedy film Marriage Blue, about an engaged couple who experience last-minute jitters and cold feet just a week before their wedding ceremony. Lee finished the year with positive reviews for her role in the television series Miss Korea, which many consider to be her best performance to date.
In 2015, Lee pushed herself further by playing the mysterious and seductive Japanese geisha Hisako in the historical comedy Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island. She then appeared in Splendid Politics, MBC's 54th anniversary drama.
Lee co-starred in SBS's fantasy romance drama Reunited Worlds with Yeo Jin-goo in 2017. She then starred in JYP Entertainment's travel romance drama The Package alongside Jung Yong-hwa, and her performance as a tour guide was praised.
Lee reteamed with Ok Taec-yeon, with whom she co-starred in the 2013 film Marriage Blue, in the mystery drama The Game: Towards Zero in 2020. Viewers, however, chastised her for her poor acting abilities.
After her contract with SM expired in 2020, Lee signed a contract with VAST Entertainment.
Lee married her non-celebrity boyfriend in a private ceremony on June 2, 2020.
