Lee Dong-wook ( born November 6, 1981) is a South Korean actor, host, model, and entertainer. In the television dramas My Girl (2005), Scent of a Woman (2011), The Fugitive of Joseon (2013), Hotel King (2014), Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016-2017), Life (2018), Touch Your Heart (2019), Hell Is Other People (2019), Tale of the Nine Tailed (2020), and Bad and Crazy (2021), he played the titular character. He also hosted the talk show Strong Heart (2012-2013), the boy group survival reality show Produce X 101 (2019), and his own American-style talk show Wook Talk (2019). (2019).
Career
Lee made his acting debut in 1999 in an MBC one-episode drama after winning the V-NESS model contest the previous year. The drama's director saw Lee and cast him in the teen drama School 2. Lee's performance in School 3 helped him gain recognition.
Lee rose to prominence with the 2005 romantic comedy My Girl. During its run, the drama series was a hit both domestically and in Asia, and Lee became a Korean Wave star. He enrolled in Joongbu University the same year, majoring in media and broadcasting arts.
Since then, he has appeared in the noir thriller Bitter Sweet Life (2008), the courtroom dramedy Partner (2009), the melodrama Scent of a Woman (2011), the baseball rom-com Wild Romance (2012), the period thriller The Fugitive of Joseon (2013), and the revenge drama Hotel King (2014), in which he reunited with My Girl co-star Lee Da-hae. He then appeared in the fantasy-action series Blade Man (2014) and the romance drama Bubble Gum (2015). (2015).
From April 2012 to January 2013, Lee and comedian Shin Dong-yup hosted the talk show Strong Heart. Lee also appeared on the reality show Roommate from 2014 to 2015.
From 2016 to 2017, Lee played a grim reaper alongside Gong Yoo in Kim Eun-fantasy-romance sook's drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. The drama was a success, and its success contributed to Lee's acting career resurgence.
Lee appeared as a doctor in the ER Department in the 2018 medical drama Life.
Lee played a workaholic lawyer in the 2019 romance comedy drama Touch Your Heart, alongside Guardian co-star Yoo In-na. He was confirmed as the host of Produce X101, the fourth season of the survival audition show Produce 101, the same year. He then played the main antagonist in the thriller drama Hell Is Other People, playing a dentist by day and a psychopath by night. To commemorate his 20th anniversary since his debut, he also began hosting his own talk show, Wook Talk.
Lee was cast as a nine-tailed fox who used to be a mountain god but is now a civil servant in the fantasy drama Tale of the Nine Tailed in 2020. He will also appear alongside Im Soo-jung in the romantic comedy Single in Seoul.
In 2021, he appeared in Kwak Jae-romantic yong's comedy film A Year-End Medley, as well as an iQIYI original mystery drama Bad and Crazy, which aired on December 17, 2021.
Lee joined the Universe communication platform in 2022.
Lee enlisted in the military in August 2009, joining the National Defense Public Relations Service. He was released in June of 2011.
Ancestry
His parents are primarily of Korean ancestry. Yoo Sung-ho, a forensic professor, revealed genealogical DNA test results for him and one of the show's producers in a Wook Talk episode that aired on January 22, 2020. According to Lee's findings, a significant portion of his mother's genetic makeup is similar to that of Koryaks and Khakas people, both of whom are indigenous to Siberia (to be more specific, Kamchatka and Khakassia respectively).
Philanthropy
Lee donated $50 million to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association on March 11, 2022, to assist victims of the massive wildfire that began in Uljin, Gyeongbuk and has spread to Samcheok, Gangwon.
