Kiara Advani Wiki, Age, Biography, Height, Boyfriend, Family, Images, And More

Alia Advani (born July 31, 1991), professionally known as Kiara Advani, is an Indian actress who works in Hindi and Telugu films. After appearing in the comedy film Fugly (2014), she portrayed MS Dhoni's wife in the sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). She received critical acclaim for her performance as a sexually unsatisfied wife in the Netflix anthology film Lust Stories (2018) and as the leading lady in the political thriller Bharat Ane Nenu (2018).

Advani gained notoriety for his roles in the romantic drama Kabir Singh and the comedy-drama Good Newwz, both of which were among the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2019. For the latter, she received the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her success continued with roles in the 2021 film Shershaah, for which she received a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress, and the 2022 films Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Jugjugg Jeeyo, and Govinda Naam Mera.

Early years

Advani was born to Sindhi Hindu businessman Jagdeep Advani and Genevieve Jaffrey, a teacher whose father was a Muslim from Lucknow and whose mother was a Christian with Scottish, Irish, Portuguese, and Spanish ancestry. Mishaal, her brother, is a musician. Her maternal family is related to several celebrities. Her step-great-grandfather and great-uncle are actors Ashok Kumar and Saeed Jaffrey.

Advani attended Cathedral and John Connon Schools before transferring to Jai Hind College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications.

She was born Alia Advani but changed her first name to Kiara before her first film, Fugly, was released in 2014. Her name was inspired by Priyanka Chopra's character Kiara in the movie Anjaana Anjaani (2010). She has stated that changing her name was Salman Khan's idea, as Alia Bhatt was already a well-known actress.

Career

Early work (2014–2019)

Advani made her acting debut in the Hindi ensemble comedy film Fugly (2014). Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama wrote, "Kiara Advani catches you completely unaware" and has the "combination of looks and talent". Mehul S Thakkar of Deccan Chronicle found her "very striking" and said that she "shows a lot of promise". Fugly performed poorly at the box office. Advani next appeared in the sports drama M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), a biopic of cricketer MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team. She played the real-life character of his wife, hotel manager Sakshi Rawat, opposite Sushant Singh Rajput (who played Dhoni). M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story was a huge commercial success, grossing over 216 crore (US$27 million) worldwide.

After that, Advani appeared in Abbas-action Mustan's thriller Machine (2017). It was a box office flop. She then worked with filmmaker Karan Johar on their first of many films, Lust Stories (2018), in which she starred alongside Vicky Kaushal as his sexually dissatisfied wife. Raja Sen, who wrote for NDTV, thought she was "positively lovely" in it. She also appeared in the music video "Urvashi," sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh, alongside Shahid Kapoor.

Advani made his Telugu film debut in 2018, co-starring with Mahesh Babu in Koratala Siva's action film Bharat Ane Nenu, about a student who unexpectedly becomes Andhra Pradesh's chief minister. Janani K of India Today opined that she "shines in her brief role" but added that her character was "more of an eye candy who doesn't add any purpose to the story". The film grossed 225 crore (US$28 million) worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films in Telugu cinema history. Her second Telugu film, Vinaya Vidheya Rama, co-starring Ram Charan, however, failed to replicate this success. "It isn't Kiara Advani's fault that she looks lost in the melee," wrote Sangeetha Devi Dundoo in a scathing review for The Hindu. In the same year, she made a cameo appearance in Abhishek Varman's ensemble period drama Kalank, which Johar produced.

Rise to prominence (2019–present)

Later in 2019, Advani gained wider attention for his role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's romantic drama Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor. The film grossed over 378 crore (US$47 million) worldwide, making it her highest-grossing release, but critics panned it for depicting misogyny and toxic masculinity. Rajeev Masand bemoaned that her passive character "offers the actress little to work with". She then appeared in the comedy Good Newwz, co-starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh, about two couples who experiment with in vitro fertilization. "Dosanjh and Advani are all about the amplification of the boisterous, kitschy Punjabi stereotype, but they play it with an infectious cheer," said Namrata Joshi. Both Kabir Singh and Good Newwz grossed more than 200 crores in India, placing them among the year's highest-grossing films. Her performance in Good Newwz earned her the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Advani appeared in Guilty, a Netflix film about sexual assault, directed by Karan Johar, in 2020. According to Ektaa Malik of The Indian Express, she was "reduced to the 'tortured-artistic-creative' types." In Raghava Lawrence's horror comedy Laxmii, she played the wife of Akshay Kumar's character, who is possessed by a transgender ghost. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Laxmii was released digitally on Disney+ Hotstar and received negative reviews. Despite this, it received a lot of attention on the platform. Advani's final release of 2020 was the unremarkable romantic comedy Indoo Ki Jawani (2020).

Advani then appeared in the war film Shershaah (2021), which was based on the life of army officer Vikram Batra (played by Sidharth Malhotra), as Batra's girlfriend. The film was made available digitally on Amazon Prime Video, where it quickly became the most-streamed Indian film. According to Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost, Advani "sparkles" in her brief role. She was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

The following year, she co-starred in the comedy horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 with Kartik Aaryan and Tabu. Shalini Langer of The Indian Express wrote that she "has little to do except pop up now and then". The film became one of her most commercially successful, grossing more than 2.6 billion (US$33 million) worldwide. Advani appeared in Jugjugg Jeeyo, a comedy-drama about divorce in which she and Varun Dhawan played an unhappy married couple. Monika Rawal Kukreja praised her "restrained performance" in the Hindustan Times. It made $1.35 billion (US$17 million) globally. She then co-starred with Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar in the comedy thriller Govinda Naam Mera, which was released digitally on Disney+ Hotstar. According to Rediff.com's Sukanya Verma, "Kiara Advani's energy is capable of far more heavy lifting than it gets credit for."

Advani will next be seen in an untitled Telugu film directed by S. Shankar, in which he will co-star with Ram Charan. In the romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha, she will also reunite with Kartik Aaryan.

In the news

Advani joined the Giordano handbags campaign as a brand ambassador in 2019. Advani collaborated with Myntra in 2020. In 2022, she joined Mango in India for a campaign to promote the brand's Spring-Summer-22 collection.

Advani was ranked 30th among the 30 most influential young Indians by GQ India. She is a regular on The Times of India's list of the "Most Desirable Woman," ranking sixth in 2019 and fourth in 2020.
