Kalyani Priyadarshan (born 5 April 1993) is an Indian actress best known for her work in Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil films. She began her film career as an assistant production designer before making her acting debut in Hello (2017), for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut - South and the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut - Telugu.
Kalyani's Malayalam film debut was Varane Avashyamund (2020), for which she received the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut - Malayalam. Kalyani has appeared in several successful films, including Telugu's Chitralahari (2019), Tamil's Maanaadu (2021), and Malayalam's Hridayam, Bro Daddy, and Thallumaala (2022).
Childhood and education
Kalyani was born on April 5, 1993, in Chennai, to Indian filmmaker Priyadarshan and actress Lissy. She is the older of two children, with a younger brother named Sidharth. Her early education was in Lady Andal, Chennai, and she later studied in Singapore, where she also worked in theatre groups.
She earned a bachelor's degree in architecture design from Parsons School of Design in New York City after finishing her education. She also interned at the Williamstown Theatre Festival during this time. When she returned to India, she attended an acting workshop at Pondicherry's Adishakti Theatre.
Career Beginnings and Early Work (2013-2020)
Kalyani began her film career in 2013 as an assistant production designer in the Hindi film Krrish 3 under Sabu Cyril (2013). She worked as an assistant art director on the Tamil film Iru Mugan in 2016. (2016). She made her acting debut the following year in the Telugu film Hello (2017), opposite Akhil Akkineni. The film was released in theatres worldwide on December 22, 2017, and critics praised her performance. Varane Avashyamund, directed by Anoop Sathyan, was her first Malayalam release.
Progression in one's career (2021-present)
She co-starred with Silambarasan in the Tamil-language science fiction action thriller film Maanaadu in 2021. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, a Malayalam film, was her next release that year. The film received mixed to negative reviews and was a box office flop. In 2022, she co-starred in Hridayam with Pranav Mohanlal. She then starred in Bro Daddy, directed by and starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, which was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar, and Thallumaala (2022), directed by Khalid Rahman and starring Tovino Thomas.
