Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo is a British actress and singer who was born on October 22, 1973. Her most notable acting credits include Metro (1997), Love's Labour's Lost (2000), What's the Worst That Could Happen? (2001), Boycott (2001), Away We Go (2009), Sparkle (2012), Alex Cross (2012), The Purge: Anarchy (2014), Selma (2014), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), It Comes at Night (2017), Alien: Covenant (2017), and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018).

In addition to Kidnapped on NBC from 2006 to 2007, Zero Hour on ABC from 2013 to 2017, The Girlfriend Experience on Starz from 2017 to 2018, True Detective on HBO from 2019 to 2019, Self Made on Netflix from 2020 to 2021, and Your Honour on Showtime from 2021 all starred Ejogo and Bryan Cranston.

She will appear in the Amazon series I'm a Virgo, hosted by Boots Riley.

Early Years

Ejogo was born in Kensington, London, England, on October 22, 1973. She is the daughter of Charles Ejogo, a Nigerian, and Elizabeth (née Douglas), a Scottish, mother. According to Ejogo, her mother was "a little bit of a hippie" when she was a child. She attended Glendower Preparatory School and the Oratory Roman Catholic Primary School before attending Godolphin and Latymer School.

Career

From 1993 to 1995, she served as the Saturday Disney morning show host. Love's Labour's Lost (2000), What's the Worst That Could Happen? (2001), Away We Go (2009), Sparkle (2012), Alex Cross (2012), The Purge: Anarchy (2014), It Comes at Night (2017), and Alien: Covenant (2017) are just a few of the films she has appeared in. She is well famous for her work in the Fantastic Beasts movie series as Seraphina Picquery. In the 2019 HBO television series True Detective, she portrays Amelia Reardon.

Coretta Scott King, a civil rights campaigner, was portrayed by Ejogo in the films Selma (2014) and Boycott (2001). She visited with King as she was getting ready for the part in Boycott, and King gave her his approval for her portrayal.

Singing Career

Since the 1990s, Ejogo has been active in the music business, working with numerous artists. On the BSB Power Station channel, she had her own video show, The Carmen Ejogo Video Show.

She co-wrote and sang the lead vocals for the English drum 'n' bass DJ Alex Reece song "Candles"; she made an appearance in the music video and is credited as "Carmen" in the production credits. Additionally, Ejogo performed vocals and a duet on the song "Slowly" with her ex-husband Tricky. She sang vocals for the 2000 movie Love's Labor's Lost.

Aside from "Candles," Ejogo is featured on four songs from the Sparkle original soundtrack album from the same-named film, singing lead on "Yes I Do" (alone) and backing vocals on "Jump," "Hooked on Your Love," and "Something He Can Feel" with Jordin Sparks and Tika Sumpter. Additionally, she played Rose Angelina in Catherine Cookson's film Colour Blind.

Ejogo and trip-hop singer Tricky had a brief marriage. She met American actor Jeffrey Wright while working on the HBO film Boycott, and they got married in 2000. Elijah, their son, was born on June 8, 1999, and Juno, their daughter, was born on April 14, 2004. Since then, Ejogo and Wright have separated.
