Candace Cameron Bure Is Called a Bigot by Hilarie Burton for Supporting Traditional Programming on GAC Family

Hilarie Burton has some issues with Candace Cameron Bure's motivations for joining the GAC Family cast.

After rumours about Bure's recent transfer from Hallmark Channel to GAC Family started to spread, including one that was reported by TVLine, the former One Tree Hill actress referred to Bure as a "bigot" on Twitter.

“Bigot. Jesus didn't seem to enjoy hypocrites like Candy, Burton recalled. "But yes. Honey, earn your money. You make all your money by riding that bias wave.

In a recent profile, Bure said to the Wall Street Journal that she wants to "tell stories that have more meaning, purpose, and depth behind them." She also said, "I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians who love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment."
Burton took offence to Bure's comments to the WSJ that no same-sex couples should be anticipated in GAC Family's programming because "I think that Great American Family will preserve conventional marriage at the core."

She said in another tweet, "Now they're just openly confessing their racism." Years ago, when Bill Abbott, the former CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, worked at Hallmark, I called this s—t. Glad they got rid of him. Being LGBTQ is not "in." That person and his network are abhorrent. Likewise, Candy. The relationships between people of the same sex are not unusual.

Following Hallmark's handling of a same-sex wedding advertisement that was removed from the channel and then returned, Abbott left Crown Media in January 2020. Burton, who had previously been in three Hallmark movies, was one of the famous people to criticise the decision when the advertisement was first pulled, noting that "the intolerance flows from the top and penetrates the whole deal over there." (Abbott later recovered and was appointed the new CEO of Great American Media, the parent company of the GAC Family.)
