Ayça Elif Varler (born May 7, 1977) is a Turkish actress, singer, composer, and television host.
She was born in Ankara in 1977 and moved to the United States to finish her education while still in high school. She later earned a degree from the University of Hartford's Hartt School. She appeared in several plays while in the United States before returning to Turkey in 2000. Karm ve Annem was her first television role in 2004. Her breakthrough came in 2005, when she starred in Gümüş. In 2007, she was cast as the lead in the play Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyas. Son Bahar was her first television lead role (2008). In 2010, she received an Afife Theater Award, a Sadri Alşk Award, and a Vasfi Rza Zobu Theater Award for her performance in the musical Leyla'nn Evi. Elif, her debut studio album, was released in 2013. In the years that followed, she starred in Taş Mektep (2013), Günce (2013), Olur Olur (2014), and Mavi Gece (2015). In 2015, she received another Sadri Alşk Award for her performance in the play Fosforlu'nun Hikayesi. Varler currently stars in the TV series Kalk Gidelim.
Childhood and education
Varler was born in Ankara on May 7, 1977, the second daughter of ballerina Duygu Varler and economist Oktay Varler. Her older sister's name is Asl. She went to New Jersey as part of a student exchange program during her sophomore year of high school. She attended the University of Hartford Hartt School of Music after graduating from high school. Later, she took part in a joint program between Harvard University and the Moscow Art Theatre School, where she studied acting for four months.
Career
1998-2004: Initial works
She was chosen by The Acting Company to work in a number of theater plays by the end of her studies. Among the musicals and plays in which she appeared were Spring Awakening, Cher Molière, Man of La Mancha, Carnival, Guys and Dolls, Working, 42nd St., Henry IV, Battleship Potemkin, and Virgin Trunk. Her visa was not renewed after the September 11th attacks, so she returned to Turkey. Following her return, she performed as a soloist with pianist Fahir Atakolu. She made her television debut as Doctor Buket in Kanal D's series Karm ve Annem in 2004.
From 2005 to 2010,
she rose to prominence and landed her first leading roles.
From January 2005 to June 2007, she portrayed Pnar in Kanal D's series Gümüş. She became a household name in the Arab World as a result of the series' popularity. She made her Broadway debut as Anita in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, directed by Altan Günbay, on February 15, 2005. In 2005, she appeared as Cinderella in an episode of Anlat Istanbul and as Evrim in the film O imdi Mahkum. She played Burcu in Turkmax's TV film Havva Durumu in 2007. She made her stage debut as Süheyla in Haldun Dormen's musical Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyas on June 26, 2007. On August 13, 2007, she returned to the Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theatre in the rock musical Rock Müzikaller. In 2008, she played Doctor Neşe in the second season of Show TV's Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu, and from March to June of the same year, she played Gizem in ATV's Limon Aac. In August 2008, she founded the WAMP management, organization, and design firm with her family.
In September 2008, she made her television debut as Sabiha Ylmaz in Star TV's Son Bahar. She co-starred with Erkan Petekkaya in the series, which concluded in October 2008. From 2009 to 2010, she portrayed Doctor Hayat in several episodes of Kanal D's Geniş Aile. On March 24, 2010, she played the role of an MS patient in Haldun Durmen's play Sil Baştan.
2010-2014: Release of the first studio album
On May 6, 2010, she debuted as Roxy in the musical Leyla'nn Evi, based on Zülfü Livaneli's novel of the same name and directed by Nedim Saban. On March 21, 2011, she won the Best Comedy and Musical Actress award at the 15th Afife Theater Awards for her performance in this musical. On April 25, 2011, she was named Best Actress at the 16th Sadri Alşk Award ceremony, followed by another award at the Vasf Rza Zobu Theater Awards ceremony. Later, she landed a role in Engin Alkan's musical Hekate'nin arks, which was produced by Istanbul City Theatres and premiered on May 10, 2010, at the 17th International Istanbul Theater Festival. She later recorded the song "Bir Zaman Hatas" for Emir Ersoy & Projecto Cubano's compilation album Yaşama Bir ans Ver, which was released on August 6, 2010 by Soulfulworks Records.
From 2010 to 2011, she portrayed Bahar in several episodes of Star TV's Behzat. Bir Ankara Polisiyesi. From January to April 2012, she starred as Buket opposite Bülent Emin Yarar in Star TV's Kalbim 4 Mevsim. Later, she recorded "Sil Baştan" for Emir Ersoy & Projecto Cubano's new compilation album Karnaval, which was released on May 12, 2012 by TMC. TMC released her debut studio album Elif on February 6, 2013. The album included eight songs, five of which she wrote.
From February to April of 2014, she played Yldz Gökçener in Kanal D's Zeytin Tepesi. In the same year, she played Azra in Kerem Akrolu's film Olur Olur!. The following year, he played Doctor Emel in Ahmet Hoşsöyler's fantasy comedy film Mavi Gece, in which she co-starred with Frat Tanş. In 2015, she took part in a project for the Hope Foundation for Children with Cancer, reading Emre Kalc's poet "Anlama Hâli" on the song "Zamansz," performed by Işn Karaca and included in the album Emre Kalc iirleriyle... Aşkn On Hâli. DMC released it on June 2, 2015.
2015–present
She played Fosforlu Cevriye in the 2015 musical Fosforlu'nun Hikayesi, which was based on Suat Derviş's novel Fosforlu Cevriye and directed by Serkan Üstüner. Tuncer Cücenolu organized it, and it premiered at Tiyatrokare on September 12, 2015. She was named Best Comedy and Musical Actress at the 21st Sadri Alşk Theater and Cinema Awards on May 2, 2016. She played Leyla Bozolu in ATV's Kehribar from March to June 2016. In the same year, she played Ayla Ker in an episode of Mordkommission Istanbul, which aired on German television network Das Erste. On Valentine's Day 2017, she uploaded a music video to YouTube for her song "Hoşçakal," which she wrote herself. Later, as the character Mahsa, she appeared as a guest star in Kanal D's Hayat arks. She presented the 21st Afife Theater Awards at Haliç Congress Center on April 24, 2017.
She has been playing Nurcan Dal in TRT 1's Kalk Gidelim since November 2017. She also played the role of Zühre in the musical Tahir ile Zühre, directed by Onur Turan and written by efik Onat. The show premiered on December 19, 2017.
Personal life
Asl Varler Pelit is her older sister. Varler lives in a villa in Beykoz, Istanbul, with her family.
