In the 2010 Tamil film Chikku Bukku, where she co-starred with Arya as Meenal "Ammu," she made her acting and cinematic debut. She then made her Telugu film debut in Priyudu (2012), playing Madhu Latha opposite Varun Sandesh.
In 2013, Rao made the switch from regional film to television with Beintehaa, costarring Harshad Arora. She played Aaliya Ghulam Haider/Aaliya Zain Abdullah, and for her portrayal, she was honored with numerous honors, including the Gold honors for Best Debut-Female

Rao made her music debut in 2015 with the song "Na Tum Humein Jano." In the same year, she made her Kannada film debut with Aditya in the part of Preetika in Rebel. She was a contestant in the Box Cricket League in 2016.
Love Ka Hai Intezaar marked Rao's return on television in 2017. In contrast to Mohit Sehgal, she played Mohini Mathur Ranawat/Mohini Ayaan Mehta. Later, she co-starred with Yunus Khan in the short film Metro Mulaqat as Priya. In the same year, she and Siddharth Basrur released their second song, "Yaad Kiya Dil Ne."
