Kevin Feige is gathering his infinity stones of writers as quickly as he can, even though we have several years' worth of Marvel Studios stuff to slog through before we ever catch a glimpse of an Avengers team-up film. Now that Deadline is reporting that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron has been chosen to write Phase 6's major finale Avengers: Secret Wars, it appears as though Loki's Michael Waldron is being added to the gauntlet.
At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Avengers: Secret Wars, a superhero epic that takes its name (and likely plot) from the Marvel Comics crossover event, was announced alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, another superhero epic. The two films are referred to as the major conclusion to the "Multiverse Saga." Even if the movies are anticipated to come out in 2025, there is still plenty of time for either date to be pushed up or back because, you know, that's a long way off.
Waldron is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), having worked on this year's Doctor Strange sequel and Disney+'s Loki, both of which had a significant impact on the next Avengers movies. Secret Wars still lacks a director, however Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Jeff Loveness, who wrote the script, are already associated with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Now, who might serve as the movie's director? Joe and Anthony Russo, the Netflix action duo and erstwhile Marvel Studios cash cows, have stated their interest in rejoining the MCU, but only for a Secret Wars-related movie.
