Zayed Abbas Khan (born 5 July 1980) is a former Indian actor and producer best known for his work in Hindi films. He is the son of Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan and has been nominated for a Filmfare Award.
He made his acting debut in 2003 in Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne after graduating from Montgomery College with degrees in Business Management and Film Making. Main Hoon Na (2004), Shabd (2005), Dus (2005), Yuvvraaj (2008), Blue (2009), and Anjaana Anjaani (2010) are among his other films (2010).
In 2011, the actor launched his co-owned production company, Born Free Entertainment, with friend and actress Dia Mirza and her husband Sahil Sanga, with their first film, Love Breakups Zindagi. Khan made his television debut in 2017 with the show Haasil. He has been married to Malaika Parekh since 2005, and they have two children.
Early years
Khan's parents are interior designer Zarine Khan and former Bollywood actor Shah Abbas Khan (Sanjay Khan). His father is of Afghan and Iranian ancestry, and his mother is from a Parsi family. Zayed, who was raised as a Muslim, is the youngest of four children and his parents' only son. Simone Khan (married to Ajay Arora), Suzanne Roshan (ex-wife of actor Hrithik Roshan), and Farah Khan Ali are his elder sisters (married to DJ Aqeel). Khan is the nephew of late actor Feroz Khan and director Akbar Khan (brothers of Sanjay Khan) and the first cousin of Fardeen Khan, a Bollywood actor.
Khan went to Welham Boys' School in Dehradun, and then to Kodaikanal International School in Kodaikanal, where he met childhood friends Esha Deol and Mallaika Parekh. He attended Montgomery College for Business Management and the London Film Academy for Film Making.
Career
Khan made his film debut in 2003 with Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne.
In 2004, he starred in Main Hoon Na, which became one of his most successful films. It was declared a hit and was the second highest-grossing film of 2004 after Veer-Zaara. In 2005, Khan was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also appeared in a music video for UMI-10, Disco 82 Remix, alongside Amrita Arora.
Khan had four films released in 2005. In Vaada, he co-starred with Arjun Rampal and Ameesha Patel as an obsessive lover. He then played a photography professor in Shabd, which he was very excited about because he had always wanted to work with Aishwarya Rai. Anubhav Sinha's action thriller Dus, in which he played a cop, was his third release. It was a smash hit, becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2005. Shaadi No. 1, Khan's final release of the year, was a box office flop.
In 2006, he appeared in Sohail Khan's action comedy Fight Club - Members Only. Following that, he appeared in Rocky: The Rebel. Khan admitted to ghostwriting some scenes in the film. He had started writing scripts while studying in London.
In 2007, he had two action films with multiple stars. Cash by Anubhav Sinha was supposed to be the sequel to Dus, but it turned out differently. As a result, some of the Dus cast members also appear in Cash. It did well in its first week, but it was unable to match the success of Dus and was eventually declared a flop. Speed, his next film, also bombed at the box office.
Khan starred as a news reporter opposite Vivek Oberoi in Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istaanbul in 2008. He also appeared in Yuvvraaj, the Bollywood remake of Rain Man, alongside Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anil Kapoor.
He appeared in the underwater action thriller Blue the following year. The film broke the record for the highest budget for a Bollywood film at the time of its release. It had a strong opening weekend on Diwali, grossing 480 million, but it was a below-average performer. He also worked on the comedy thriller Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene. However, due to production issues, it was only released in 2015.
Khan made a cameo appearance as an unfaithful fiancé in Anjaana Anjaani, a 2010 film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
In 2011, the actor co-founded the production company Born Free Entertainment with friend and actress Dia Mirza and her husband, Sahil Sanga. Their debut film, Love Breakups Zindagi, was released on October 7, 2011, to lukewarm reviews.
Khan appeared as a supporting actor in Tezz, a 2012 film starring Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan.
Khan made his television debut in August 2017 on the show Haasil, playing Ranvir Raichand opposite Vatsal Sheth and Nikita Dutta. The show debuted in October of 2017.
