Yeo Jin-goo (; Hanja:, born August 13, 1997) is a South Korean actor. Yeo began his career as a child actor, making his film debut in Sad Movie (2005). He went on to play the younger characters of the lead roles in films and television dramas such as A Frozen Flower (2008), Giant (2010), Moon Embracing the Sun (2012), and Missing You (2013). (2012). He is best known for his role as the title character in the action thriller Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013), for which he received the Blue Dragon Film Awards' Best New Actor award.

Childhood and education

On August 13, 1997, Yeo was born. He is the eldest of two siblings, one of whom is his younger brother. Yeo wanted to be on television as a child and asked his parents to let him try acting. He took acting lessons with his parents' support and eventually made his big-screen debut in Sad Movie (2005).

In 2016, he graduated from Namgang High School, an all-boys high school. He is currently enrolled at Chung-Ang University, where he is majoring in Theater.

Career

From 2005 to 2011, I worked as a child actor.

Yeo made his film debut at the age of eight in Sad Movie in 2005. Despite having no prior acting experience, he auditioned for the role of Park Hwi-chan and was chosen from a pool of 150 candidates. In 2006, he made his television debut in I Want to Love as a sickly child of a single mother, followed by his first sageuk role as young Kim Heum-soon in Yeon Gaesomun.

In the 2008 series Iljimae and Tazza, he played the younger version of the lead characters. He received his first acting award as Best Child Actor for both dramas at the SBS Drama Awards.

In 2010, he played the younger counterpart to Lee Beom-character soo's in the drama Giant. Yeo claims that this was the first time he fully immersed himself in a role and began to take acting seriously.

In 2011, he portrayed the title character's younger brother in the historical drama Warrior Baek Dong-soo. He also appeared as a teen Ddol-bok in the drama Deep Rooted Tree. The appearance was at the request of its lead actor Jang Hyuk, who fell in love with Yeo when he played his younger self in the drama Tazza.

Rising popularity in 2012

Yeo rose to prominence in 2012 when he played a young crown prince in the fantasy-period drama Moon Embracing the Sun. The drama surpassed 40% in ratings and was designated a "national drama." Following that, she had a well-received role in the melodrama Missing You. For his roles in both dramas, he was named Best Young Actor at the 2012 MBC Drama Awards.

Transition to leadership roles from 2013 to the present

Yeo starred as the titular character in the action thriller Hwayi: A Monster Boy in 2013, for which he received critical acclaim and won several Best New Actor awards at annual award ceremonies such as the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards. At the age of sixteen, he is the youngest male actor in Blue Dragon Film Awards history to receive the Best New Actor award. In the same year, he was cast as an aspiring mobile application developer in the sitcom Potato Star 2013QR3.

In 2015, he starred in the film Shoot Me in the Heart, based on Jeong Yu-bestselling jeong's novel of the same name. Orange Marmalade, based on the webtoon of the same name, gave him his first leading role on television. For his performance, he received the Best New Actor Award at the 2015 KBS Drama Awards. He also appeared in the Korean War film The Long Way Home the same year. His co-star in the film, veteran actor Sol Kyung-gu, strongly recommended Yeo for the role of Yeong-gwang and only signed the movie contract after Yeo's casting was finalized.

Yeo won an Excellence Award at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards for his performance as King Yeongjo in the SBS drama The Royal Gambler.
Yeo appeared in the science fiction drama Circle and the historical film Warriors of the Dawn, both of which premiered in May on tvN. He was also cast in the star-studded film 1987: When the Day Comes, which is based on the June Democratic Uprising. The film reunited him with Hwayi: A Monster Boy director Jang Joon-hwan and actor Kim Yoon-seok. He appeared in SBS's romance drama Reunited Worlds in July.

Yeo appeared in the romantic comedy My Absolute Boyfriend, based on the Japanese manga series of the same name, in 2018. It aired the following year on SBS.

In 2019, he starred in The Crowned Clown, tvN's remake of the 2012 Korean film Masquerade, playing dual roles as clown Ha-seon and King Yi Heon, for which he received a nomination for Best Actor - Television at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. The same year, he co-starred with IU in the Hong sisters' fantasy mystery drama Hotel del Luna. Throughout its run, the drama was a commercial success, with the highest ratings in its timeslot.

Yeo made a cameo appearance as Jang Young Shil, the AI speaker, in the 2020 drama Start Up. He also appeared in the final episode as a start-up owner named Hong Ji Seok.

In 2021, Yeo co-starred as the main lead in the psychological thriller drama Beyond Evil, which premiered in February and aired on JTBC. Shin Ha-kyun and Yeo previously appeared in the 2006 film No Mercy for the Rude, where Yeo played Shin's younger counterpart. Yeo was also confirmed as an MC for Girls Planet 999, which aired on Mnet in August 2021, in June 2021.

Yeo appeared as a sous chef at a high-end restaurant in the tvN fantasy-melodrama Link: Eat, Love, Kill in 2022. Later that year, Ditto, a remake of the 2000 film of the same name, marked Yeo's return to the big screen after a five-year absence.
