Troye Sivan Mellet (/tr svn/ TROY sih-VAHN; born 5 June 1995) is a singer-songwriter, actor, and YouTuber from Australia. Sivan signed with EMI Australia in 2013 after gaining popularity as a singer on YouTube and in Australian talent competitions, and his third extended play, TRXYE (2014), peaked at number five on the US Billboard 200. The album's lead single, "Happy Little Pill," peaked at number ten on the Australian music charts. In 2015, he released his fourth extended play Wild, followed by his debut studio album Blue Neighbourhood, the lead single of which "Youth" became Sivan's first single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart's top 40, peaking at number 23. Bloom (2018), his second studio album, debuted at number three in Australia and number four on the Billboard 200 chart. Its lead single, "My My My!", went to number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, becoming Sivan's second number one single. His EP In a Dream was released in 2020.

Sivan appeared as the younger Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and as the titular character in the Spud film trilogy. Sivan, a YouTube personality, used to regularly upload video blogs and has over 7.3 million subscribers and over 1.3 billion total views as of 2021. Time magazine named Sivan one of the "25 Most Influential Teens of 2014" in 2014. In 2017, he became the GLAAD Stephen F. Kolzak Award's youngest recipient.

Early years

Sivan Mellet was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, the son of homemaker and former model Laurelle Mellet and entrepreneur and real estate agent Shaun Mellet. Sivan grew up with his parents and three siblings in Perth, Western Australia. He grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family, though he is not religious—his father was born into a Jewish family of Lithuanian-Jewish descent, and his mother converted to Judaism. Sivan was a student at Carmel School, a private Modern Orthodox school, until 2009, when he began distance learning. Sivan is a Hebrew calendar month that became his surname.

Career sMusic

Sivan's musical career began when he performed at the Channel Seven Perth Telethon in 2006, 2007, and 2008. In 2006, he performed a duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian. Sivan advanced to the StarSearch 2007 finals. Dare to Dream, his debut EP, was released in June 2007. Sivan debuted "We Are the World 25 for Haiti (YouTube Edition)" in February 2010, a collaborative music charity video produced by Lisa Lavie to help raise funds for the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Sivan was signed to EMI Australia, a Universal Music Australia label, on June 5, 2013, but it was not revealed until a year later. TRXYE, a five-song EP released on August 15, 2014, was led by its first single "Happy Little Pill," which was released on July 25, 2014. TRXYE debuted at number one on iTunes in more than 55 countries. The following week, the EP debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, giving Sivan his first Top 10 album. "Happy Little Pill" reached number ten on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association for shipments of more than 35,000 copies. The EP was accompanied by a music video trilogy titled Blue Neighbourhood, which included the three songs "Wild," "Fools," and "Talk Me Down" and was released between September and December 2015. The EP also served as a precursor to his debut studio album Blue Neighbourhood, which was released on December 4, 2015. "Youth" peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. Sivan's first tour, Troye Sivan Live, in 2015, supported Blue Neighbourhood and Wild. He also supported Blue Neighbourhood on the Blue Neighbourhood Tour and the Suburbia Tour in 2016. Troye and Martin Garrix collaborated on the song "There for You" on May 26, 2017.

Sivan released the single "My My My!" along with a music video on January 10, 2018. His then-boyfriend, American model Jacob Bixenman, inspired his second album, he confirmed. Pitchfork described his vocals as "assured," and NPR Music called it "an infectious celebration of sexual desire." NPR also emphasized the importance of the song and music video displaying Sivan's sexual confidence, writing, "It's not every day you see a young, skinny, queer kid get to be completely himself in a music video, and Sivan makes us want to dance along with him." Sivan debuted the song live for the first time on Saturday Night Live on January 20th, as a musical guest in an episode hosted by Jessica Chastain. Sivan later confirmed that "Dance to This," a collaboration with long-time friend Ariana Grande, would be included on his new album. His song "Strawberries & Cigarettes" from the Love, Simon soundtrack was released on March 16th. It was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2018 Satellite Awards. Following "The Good Side," "Bloom" was released as the third single on May 2, 2018. That month, he announced the title of his second studio album, Bloom, while performing as a guest performer with Taylor Swift at a concert in Pasadena, California, as part of her Reputation Stadium Tour. On August 31, 2018, the album was released. "Animal," the album's final pre-release track, was released on August 9, 2018.

That same year, Sivan was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for "Revelation," a song he recorded and co-wrote for the film Boy Erased. For the song, he was also nominated for an Academy Award. Sivan collaborated with British singer-songwriter Charli XCX on the single "1999" in October 2018, and the two also performed the song live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Sivan released "Take Yourself Home," his first single from his fifth EP In a Dream, on April 1, 2020. To create the visual art for his single, Sivan collaborated with freelance artists in need of work during the COVID-19 pandemic. All net proceeds from the single were donated to the WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and Spotify's COVID-19 Music Relief Project, which Sivan met on Instagram. Sivan released the single "Easy" and announced the release of the concept EP In a Dream on July 15. The EP will be available on August 21, 2020. He performed songs from the EP for Grubhub's virtual concert series Sound Bites in June 2021. Sivan announced on February 2, 2022, that he had written two original songs for the upcoming film Three Months, which was set to be released on February 23, 2022. Sivan announced on February 18, 2022, that he would play Caleb, a 17-year-old infected with HIV after a one-night fling on the eve of his high school graduation, in Three Months. The film delves into the ongoing stigma that HIV-positive people face.

The characters in Sivan's music videos frequently have gay relationships. The trilogy Blue Neighbourhood followed the story of two gay teenagers in a secret relationship, whereas "Youth" featured Sivan with another male love interest. His music video for "Heaven" features footage of historical LGBT movements and couples, as well as sensual shots with him and an anonymous man with the running taglines "Without losing a piece of me, how do I get to Heaven?" and "If I'm losing a piece of me, maybe I don't want Heaven".
