Bang Sung-joon (born July 10, 1990), also known by his stage name Sung Joon, is a South Korean actor and model. He rose to prominence as the lead in the television series Flower Band (2012), Can We Get Married? Madame Antoine: The Love Therapist (2012), I Need Romance 3 (2014), High Society (2015), and Madame Antoine: The Love Therapist (2016). He also appeared in Dangerously Excited (2012), Horror Stories 2 (2013), Pluto (2013), and The Villainess (2013). (2017).
Career
Beginnings
Sung Joon began his entertainment career as a model, but quickly transitioned to acting, making his debut in the 2011 drama White Christmas. The same year, he was cast in Lie to Me as a supporting actor. In 2012, he was cast as the lead in the teen drama Flower Band, playing the free-spirited leader of a rock band.
Dangerously Excited marked Sung Joon's film debut.
Acting in the mainstream
Sung Joon was cast as the lead in the romantic comedy drama Can We Get Married? in 2013. Jung So-opposite min's number. Gu Family Book, his first historical drama, was released the same year. Sung also appeared in Horror Stories 2 and the high school thriller Pluto.
In 2014, he was cast as the character of a carefree songwriter in the third installment of TvN's romantic comedy I Need Romance 3. Later that year, he played a plastic surgeon in the drama Discovery of Love.
Sung Joon was cast as the lead in the mystery melodrama High Society in 2015, playing a man who succeeds despite coming from a poor family. He also appeared as a supporting actor in Hyde Jekyll, Me, a romantic comedy in which he played a hypnosis specialist.
Sung Joon co-starred with Han Ye-seul in the 2016 romantic comedy drama Madame Antoine: The Love Therapist.
Sung Joon co-starred as a lawyer in the 2017 mystery comedy Ms. Perfect with Ko So-young.
Sung Joon appeared in the film Ghost Mansion in 2021, marking his return to the big screen four years after his discharge from the military.
Private life
Sung Joon keeps in touch with fellow model-turned-actors Kim Young-kwang, Lee Soo-hyuk, Kim Woo-bin, and Hong Jong-hyun, with whom he co-starred in White Christmas. Model Avengers was the nickname given to them by their fans.
On December 18, 2018, Sung Joon quietly enlisted for his mandatory military service. He finished basic training at the Army's 2nd Infantry Division in Gangwon Province after five weeks. Prior to his enlistment, he was in a relationship with his non-celebrity girlfriend, with whom he had a child. Sung's agency, O& Entertainment, announced in August 2020 that he would hold a private wedding on September 12, 2020.
