Sung Hoon is a South Korean actor and model who was born Bang In-gyu on February 14, 1983.
Early years
Sung Hoon's birth name is Bang In-gyu, but he legally changed his name to Bang Sung-hoon because he was sick frequently as a child and underwent numerous surgeries. In episode 312 of the variety show I Live Alone, he revealed the reason. He was a University swimming champion who specialized in the butterfly stroke. He swam for 14 years before having to stop due to a spinal injury. He enlisted in the military, but the same injury forced him to leave early. Sung Hoon went on to become a swimming instructor. He made his acting debut in 2009 with White Brown's Because I Love You.
Career
2011-2012: Commercial success and first acting roles
Sung Hoon made his debut in the supernatural romance drama New Tales of Gisaeng. At the 2011 SBS Drama Awards, his performance in this drama earned him a New Star Award.
He was cast in his first Chinese drama, The Bodyguard, in 2012. The same year, he appeared as an antagonist in the historical drama Faith. Later that year, he was cast in The Birth of a Family, a daily drama.
2013-2015: Acting hiatus, then return to television
Sung Hoon starred as the lead in the weekend drama Passionate Love in 2013. Sung Hoon appeared in the 2014 web drama 6 Persons Room as a construction safety engineer who suffers an injury and ends up in a hospital surrounded by strange patients.
In 2015, Sung Hoon starred in the web drama Noble, My Love and appeared as a professional MMA fighter in KBS's romantic comedy series Oh My Venus.
Sung Hoon is also a musical Disc Jockey who goes by the stage name Roiii. Sung Hoon has performed in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, among other places.
Rising Popularity in 2016-2017
Sung Hoon returned to Korean television in 2016 with KBS's weekend drama Five Enough, playing a model turned professional golfer, and his pairing with Shin Hye-sun proved popular with viewers.
Sung Hoon appeared as a second-generation chaebol in the 2017 romantic comedy drama My Secret Romance. He then portrayed an entertainment company producer in The Idolmaster KR, which is based on the Japanese video game The Idolmaster. Sung Hoon was cast in the romance-fantasy film Are You in Love? the same year. Kim So-counterpart. eun's The film was released in 2020.
2018-present: Television resurgence and comeback
Sung Hoon's first action film, Brothers in Heaven, was released in January of 2018. He played fraternal twins alongside Jo Han-sun. He also appeared in The Sound of Your Heart: Reboot and the romantic comedy web drama I Picked Up a Celebrity on the Street.
Sung Hoon returned to the small screen in 2019 with the romantic comedy drama Level Up, in which he played a company restructuring expert.
By the end of 2020, Sung Hoon had returned to web drama with My Secret Star, in which he played a Hallyu star who is hiding a big secret and meets a Vietnamese actress Hoàng Yn Chibi, who risked her life to get the scoop.
Sung Hoon appeared in the season 1 and 2 drama Love in 2021 as a lawyer who struggles to keep his marriage together (ft. Marriage and Divorce). In 2022, he reteamed with New Tales of Gisaeng co-star Im Soo-hyang in the SBS romantic comedy drama Woori the Virgin, based on the American series Jane the Virgin.
