Seo Kang-joon is a South Korean actor and singer who was born Lee Seung-hwan on October 12, 1993. He is a member of the group 5urprise. He rose to prominence after appearing in the television series Cheese in the Trap (2016), and he has since appeared in Entourage (2016), Are You Human Too? (2018), The Third Charm (2018), Watcher (2019), When The Weather Is Fine (2020), and Grid (2022).

Childhood and education

Lee Seung-hwan was born Seo Kang-joon in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Seo studied abroad in Malaysia for one year and seven months in his second year of secondary school before returning to Korea in his first year of high school. Following his debut, he enrolled at Dong Seoul College's Faculty of Performing Arts. Prior to his debut, Seo worked as a model on the side. Seo underwent training before debuting in the group 5urprise after passing the audition for Fantagio's Actor's League, a program aimed at discovering new actors.

2012-2015 Career: Beginnings

Seo appeared in a few episodes of various television shows before making his acting debut in the SBS drama The Suspicious Housekeeper as a supporting character. His breakthrough performance came in the 2014 romantic comedy series Cunning Single Lady, for which he received the Best New Actor award at the 7th Korea Drama Awards. Following that, he appeared in the television dramas What Happens to My Family? (2014-2015), Splendid Politics (2015), and To Be Continued (2015), as well as the films My Love, My Bride (2014) and Summer Snow (2015). (2015).

Seo debuted as a cast member on the SBS variety show Roommate in 2014. He also appeared as a guest on Law of the Jungle.

2016–present: Rising stardom and leading roles

Seo made her breakthrough as a talented pianist in the college romance drama Cheese in the Trap in 2016. The following year, he landed his first leading role in the tvN drama Entourage, a Korean remake of the American television series of the same name.

Seo appeared in KBS's science fiction drama Are You Human? in 2018, playing both a wealthy heir and a robot. He appeared in the romance comedy drama The Third Charm the same year.

Seo played a cop in OCN's thriller drama Watcher in 2019. When the Weather Is Fine, a JTBC romance drama, will air in the first half of 2020.
Seo appeared as an employee of the Grid Bureau in the Disney+ (Star) thriller drama Grid in 2022.

Private life

Service in the military

It was reported on November 8, 2021, that Seo would enlist in the military on November 23, 2021. Later that day, Seo's agency confirmed that he would enlist in the military on November 23, without specifying where he would be stationed. Seo was recognized by the division commander for his outstanding performance in basic military training. Seo is scheduled to be discharged from the military on May 22, 2023.
