She rose to prominence after appearing in the 1998 film Choorian, which is regarded as one of the most successful Pakistani films of all time. Her other notable film credits include the commercial successes Buddha Gujjar (2002), Majajan (2006), and Bhai Log (2011). During the 1990s and early 2000s, she was one of the country's leading film actresses.
Saima's filmography includes the supernatural film Naag aur Nagin (2005) and the biographical film Salute (2016). She has also made a name for herself in the Pakistani television industry, appearing in shows such as Rang Laaga (2015), Yeh Mera Deewanapan Hai (2015), and Babban Khala Ki Betiyann (2018–2019).
She married director Syed Noor in 2005, with whom she has collaborated on several films.
Early years
Saima was born in the Pakistani city of Multan, Punjab. She is from a Pathan family.
a career in film
Nagina Khanum introduced Saima to the film industry, and she made her debut in the 1987 film Griban. She went on to star in her second film, Khatarnaak, directed by Akram Khan. She was mostly paired opposite actor Sultan Rahi in Punjabi films during her early years in the industry, but she was recognized as a leading actress when filmmaker Syed Noor launched her career in Urdu films. Her biggest commercial success came in 1998, when she starred in the musical-romantic film Choorian, which grossed approximately Rs. 200 million and became Pakistan's highest grossing Punjabi-language film, establishing her as a leading actress of Lollywood. She played Tanya, the second lead in the acclaimed revenge thriller film Khilona, alongside Meera and Saud. In the film Jungle Queen, she played the role of a fearless girl who lives in the jungle, swings on vines, rides elephants, and so on. Her husband, Syed Noor, directed it. She played a serpent in the supernatural fantasy film Naag aur Nagin in 2005. In 2011, she starred as Munniya in the action film Bhai Log, which was a moderate box-office success, grossing over Rs. 9.7 million in its first three days.
In 2012, she co-starred with Shaan in the family film Shareeka, which had a solid box-office debut, grossing over Rs. 3 million in its first three days. Saima also appeared in Salute, a biographical drama film based on the life of Aitzaz Hasan.
She appeared in the Punjabi film Tere Bajre Di Rakhi in 2022.
Television
She has appeared in a number of television series, including Rang Laaga, Kaneez, Ye Mera Deewanapan Hai, and Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai, in addition to films. In 2018, she was cast in the drama series Lamhay alongside Sarmad Khoosat.
Private life
Despite being romantically linked to Syed Noor, it was never officially revealed whether or not she married him. During a press conference in 2007, Saima publicly stated that she married Syed Noor in July 2005, while they were filming their mutual film Majajan.
Some media outlets and online websites reported in 2018 that Syed Noor had divorced Saima and that the two were living separately. The couple, however, denied these rumors and posted a short video on social media stating that they are happily married and will never divorce.
In the news
During the 1990s and early 2000s, Saima was one of Pakistan's most popular and prominent film actresses. In 2017, The Express Tribune published an article about the lack of new heroines in the revival of Lollywood, and Saima was mentioned as being fortunate for the industry because she is from Southern Punjab. The News International's film critic Omair Alavi praised her acting abilities, writing, "You can see why directors have continued to cast her over the years." In 2010, BBC News dubbed her the "reigning queen of Pakistan's silver screen," noting that she is "now one of the industry's biggest names."
Following the demise of Pakistan's film industry, Saima made her television debut and went on to become one of television's highest-paid actresses, alongside actress Resham, who was her contemporary in the 1990s.
