Rosamund Mary Ellen Pike is a British actress who was born in 1979. She began her acting career on stage in plays such as Romeo and Juliet and Gas Light. Following her television debut in A Rather English Marriage (1998), she gained international acclaim for her film debut as Bond girl Miranda Frost in Die Another Day (2002), for which she won the Empire Award for Best Newcomer. Following her breakthrough, she won the BIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Libertine (2004) and played Jane Bennet in Pride & Prejudice (2005).

Pike was nominated for a British Independent Film Award for her supporting roles in An Education (2009) and Made in Dagenham (2010), and she has also appeared in mainstream films such as Johnny English Reborn (2011), Wrath of the Titans (2012), Jack Reacher (2012), and The World's End (2013). She attended Badminton School in Bristol, and while performing as Juliet in a Romeo and Juliet production at the National Youth Theatre, she was noticed by an agent, who helped her launch a professional career.

After being rejected by every stage school she applied to, she was accepted to Wadham College, Oxford, to study English literature. She earned an Upper Second-class honours degree in 2001 after taking a year off to pursue her acting career, performing in David Hare's Skylight, Arthur Miller's All My Sons, and several William Shakespeare plays.

Career as an actor

Pike acted in and directed several plays while still at Oxford, including one by Simon Chesterman, who was a graduate student at the time. She appeared on British television shows such as A Rather English Marriage (1998), Wives and Daughters (1999), and Love in a Cold Climate (1999). (2001). She played Sarah Beaumont in an episode of the television series Foyle's War.
