Ram Pothineni (born May 15, 1988) is an Indian actor who works primarily in Telugu films. He made his acting debut in the box office hit Devadasu (2006), for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut - South. He has two Filmfare South Awards and one SIIMA Award to his name.

Following his debut, he starred in Ready, a commercial and critical success (2008). This was followed by a string of commercial failures before finally finding success with Kandireega (2011). Pandaga Chesko (2015), Nenu Sailaja (2016), Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi (2017), Hello Guru Prema Kosame (2018), iSmart Shankar (2019), and Red are some of Pothineni's other notable works (2021).

Early years

Murali Pothineni gave birth to Ram Pothineni on May 15, 1988, in Hyderabad. Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, a Telugu film producer, is his uncle. Sharwanand, an actor, is his cousin. His ancestors are from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.


Beginnings and early career (2006–2010)

Pothineni made his debut in the Tamil language short film Adayaalam (2002), playing an 18-year-old drug addict. In 2006, he made his feature film debut with Devadasu. Sukumar directed his second film, Jagadam, in which he starred alongside Isha Sahani. He then starred alongside Genelia D'Souza in the commercially successful Ready, directed by Srinu Vaitla. Maska and Ganesh: Just Ganesh were both released in 2009. Pothineni had only one film out in 2010, Rama Rama Krishna Krishna, which was produced by Dil Raju and directed by Srivaas.

Ups and downs in one's career (2011–2016)

Kandireega was Pothineni's next film (2011). He later appeared in Endukante... Premanta! (2012), directed by Karunakaran and produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, with Tamannaah. Pothineni co-starred in Ongole Githa, directed by Bhaskar and produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad, in 2013. In the same year, he co-starred with Venkatesh in Masala, an action comedy remake of the Hindi film Bol Bachchan directed by K. Vijaya Bhaskar and Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, as well as D. Suresh Babu is an actor.

Pothineni appeared in two films in 2015: Pandaga Chesko and Shivam. While Pandaga Chesko, directed by Gopichand Malineni, was a commercial success, Shivam was one of his career's biggest flops. In 2016, he had two releases, both produced by his own production house Sri Sravanthi Movies, Nenu Sailaja, which was a commercial success, and Hyper, which was an average box office performer directed by Santosh Srinivas.

Recent accomplishments and work (2017–present)

Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi, his 2017 coming-of-age film, received mixed reviews. In 2018, he starred in Trinadha Rao Nakkina's romantic comedy Hello Guru Prema Kosame. In 2019, he worked on the action thriller iSmart Shankar with director Puri Jagannadh. Pothineni's film was a success after a string of flops. It was his career's highest grosser, grossing over 90 crore.

Red, in which he played a dual role in 2021, is a remake of the Tamil film Thadam (2018). In 2022, he played a police officer in the Lingusamy-directed The Warriorr. The film received negative critical reviews and was a commercial flop.

Pothineni has been cast in Boyapati Srinu's #RAPO20. It will be his first film in India.

Pothineni has appeared on the list of Hyderabad Times' Most Desirable Men several times. He finished eleventh in 2017, eleventh in 2018, third in 2019, and second in 2020.

Pothineni collaborated with John Abraham on his first-ever brand endorsement for Garnier.
