Park Seo-joon (born December 16, 1988 as Park Yong-kyu) is a South Korean actor. He is best known for his roles in the television shows Kill Me, Heal Me (2015), She Was Pretty (2015), Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016-2017), Fight for My Way (2017), What's Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018), and Itaewon Class (2017). Early years
Park Seo-joon (born Park Yong-kyu) (Korean: ) was born in Seoul, South Korea on December 16, 1988. He began his mandatory military service in 2008, when he was 20 years old, and was discharged in 2010.
Career
Beginnings and breakthroughs, 2011-2015
Park made his debut in the entertainment industry in 2011 when he appeared in the music video for Bang Yong-single guk's "I Remember." He appeared in Dream High 2 (2012), Pots of Gold (2013), and One Warm Word (2013) as a supporting actor before landing his first leading role in A Witch's Love (2014). He hosted Music Bank from October 2013 to April 2015.
His breakthrough roles were in the 2015 dramas Kill Me, Heal Me, and She Was Pretty, in which he co-starred with Hwang Jung-eum. Park appeared in the thriller film The Chronicles of Evil the same year.
2016-present: Popularity in the general public
Park co-starred in the 2016 youth historical drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth with Go Ara and Park Hyung-sik, playing a low-born young man who becomes a legendary Hwarang warrior during the Silla dynasty.
Park rose to prominence in the 2017 KBS2 romance comedy drama Fight for My Way, in which he co-starred with Kim Ji-won as Ko Dong-man, a former taekwondo player with a painful past who struggles to find success as a mixed martial arts fighter. The television series was a huge success in South Korea, topping ratings in its time slot. The same year, he co-starred in the action-comedy Midnight Runners with Kang Ha-neul in his first leading role on the big screen. Park was named Best New Actor at major film award ceremonies including the Grand Bell Awards and the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards.
Park Min-young starred as a narcissistic vice-chairman of a major corporation who falls in love with his secretary in the 2018 romantic comedy drama What's Wrong with Secretary Kim. The series was a success, and Park received positive feedback from critics for his performance, earning him the title of "master of romantic comedy" in the Korean press.
Park played a martial arts champion with divine powers in the 2019 action horror film The Divine Fury. Park also served as a special juror for the Asiana International Short Film Festival that year. He also appeared as a cameo in the Academy Award-winning film Parasite (2019).
Park appeared in the JTBC drama Itaewon Class, based on the webtoon of the same name, in 2020. He portrayed the owner of a bar-restaurant who successfully franchises it. The drama was a success, and Park was nominated for Best Actor - Television at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for his performance.
