Maharashtra Gov imposes new covid restrictions amid delta plus surge

The Uddhav Thackrey led government has decided to tighten covid restrictions in the wake of rising delta plus cases in the state which has already been declared a "variant of concern" by the center.

The state government stated that instead of five-level unlock, which was announced earlier, there will be three-level restrictions in all districts now. The government also said that all administrative units will remain under level 3 or above until further orders, as per the new guidelines issued as a part of government notification, which also calls for boosting up 70% vaccination for the eligible adult population in the state.

The state government also said that the weekly positivity rate regarding levels of restrictions will be determined via Rt-PCR test, and not rapid antigen test.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has reported its first death linked to delta plus variant of sars cov-2. The state has reported 21 cases of delta plus variant so far,  mainly in the districts of Ratnagiri and Jalgaon. Maharashtra has also become the first state in the country to achieve administration of 3 crores vaccine doses since the beginning of nationwide inoculation.
