Lee Hyun-woo is a South Korean actor and singer who was born on March 23, 1993. He began his acting career as a child actor when he was nine years old, and he later appeared in the television series The Return of Iljimae (2009) and Queen Seondeok (2010). (2009). He also appeared in the films Master of Study (2010) and To the Beautiful You (2012). Lee rose to prominence for his roles as a North Korean spy in the 2013 film Secretly, Greatly and as a brilliant hacker in the 2014 film The Con Artists. He then starred in Moorim School (2016) and The Liar and His Lover (2017). (2017).
Career
From 2005 to 2011, I worked as a child actor.
Lee began his career as a child actor, working on a variety of large-scale productions such as The Legend, King Sejong the Great, The Return of Iljimae, and Queen Seondeok.
He rose to prominence for his performance in Master of Study, a Korean film adaptation of the Japanese manga Dragon Zakura. The following year, Lee appeared in the 2010 musical production of Footloose, playing the lead role of Ren.
He and K-pop singer Yoon Doo-joon (from B2ST) co-hosted the music show Music on Top for cable channel jTBC in 2011. He was then seen in IU's music video for "You and I." Lee expanded his acting career with roles in historical drama Gyebaek, revenge thriller Man from the Equator, and medical drama Brain.
Rising popularity from 2012 to 2018
Lee co-starred in To the Beautiful You, a Korean television adaptation of the Japanese manga Hana-Kimi, in 2012, playing the character Shuichi Nakatsu. Despite receiving low ratings during its domestic run, Lee's exposure to the Korean Wave increased in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and China. He and co-star Hwang Kwang-hee were later announced as the new hosts of Inkigayo, a live music show.
His breakout continued with a major role in the 2013 box office smash Secretly, Greatly, an action-comedy film in which he played a North Korean undercover spy disguised as a high school boy. Lee also performed "Ode to Youth" for the soundtrack. He was named the Puchon International Film Festival's first male celebrity ambassador.
He and his real-life best friend Park Ji-bin (both child actors from the same agency) appeared in the travel/reality show Real Mate in Saipan in 2014. Lee then portrayed a hacker in the heist film The Con Artists.
Then, in 2015, he starred in Northern Limit Line, a naval thriller about the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong. The film grossed US$38,945,231 from 6,024,894 ticket sales, making it the most-watched Korean film in 2015.
He appeared in the fantasy youth drama Moorim School in 2016. Due to low ratings, the drama was reduced to 16 episodes instead of the original 20.
Lee appeared alongside Red Velvet's Joy in the 2017 drama The Liar and His Lover, a Korean remake of the Japanese manga Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru.
Prior to joining the army, Lee released a digital single titled "Twenty-Six" in 2018.
2022-present: Back to the small screen
Lee returned to the small screen in 2022 with the Netflix drama Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area, his first work in five years.
Private life
Service in the military
Lee began his mandatory military service as an active duty soldier on February 19, 2018. On October 19, 2019, he completed his military service and was discharged.
