Kim Sung-cheol (born 31 December 1991) is a South Korean actor. He began his career in stage musicals before landing his first television role as Kim Young-cheol (a.k.a. 'Jailbird') in Prison Playbook (2017). He has received praise for his roles in The Battle of Jangsari (2019), Do You Like Brahms? (2020), and Our Beloved Summer (2020). (2021).

Career

In 2014, Kim made his stage debut in the musical Puberty. In the years that followed, he appeared in a number of musicals, including My Bucket List, Werther, and Fan Letter. He won Best Rookie Actor at the Korea Musical Awards in 2016 for his performance as Tobias Ragg in the Korean production of Sweeney Todd. In the 2017 revival of Mr. Mouse, a Korean musical based on the short story Flowers for Algernon, he co-starred with Hong Kwang-ho as Seo In-hu.

Kim made his television debut in 2017 with Prison Playbook.

Kim co-starred in the 2018 musical rom-com To. Jenny with Jung Chae-yeon. Kim also appeared in the movie Too Hot to Die. Kim joined the drama OCN Player in October 2018.

Kim appeared in the JTBC drama The Wind Blows as well as the tvN series Arthdal Chronicles in 2019. He also appeared in the war film The Battle of Jangsari, for which he was nominated for Best New Actor at the 27th Korean Culture and Entertainment Awards. Kim Ji-young: Born 1982 was released the same year, and he played a supporting role in it.

Kim was nominated for Best New Actor at the 2020 SBS Drama Awards for his performance in the SBS drama Do You Like Brahms? in 2020. Kim starred as Jung Ui-myeong in the Netflix apocalyptic horror series Sweet Home the same year.

Kim made cameo appearances in Vincenzo and Racket Boys in 2021. Kim was also cast as an MC in Channel A's DIMF Musical Star. Kim was later confirmed to star in the SBS drama Our Beloved Summer, which will premiere in December 2021. Kim was confirmed to star in the historical film The Owl in August 2021, with filming beginning in September 2021.

Kim is set to return to musicals as L in the upcoming Korean production of Death Note in 2022.
