Kang Tae-oh (born June 20, 1994 as Kim Yoon-hwan) is a South Korean actor and singer. He was a member of the actor collective 5urprise. He rose to international prominence as the star of the television series Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022).
Kang made his acting debut in the web series After School: Lucky or Not in 2013, alongside members of 5urprise, an actor group formed by talent agency Fantagio. In 2015, he appeared in the MBC weekend drama Flower of Queen as a supporting actor.
He also made a name for himself in Vietnam as the lead in the Korean-Vietnamese co-production drama Forever Young.
Kang joined the KBS historical drama The Tale of Nokdu in 2019, earning him critical acclaim for his work in historical dramas. In the same year, he appeared as Oh Yeon-ex-boyfriend seo's in the MBC drama Love with Flaws. He later appeared in the Netflix original series My First First Love.
Kang appeared in the JTBC drama Run On in 2020 as an art student alongside Choi Soo-young. Later that year, his contract with the same agency expired, and he transferred to Man of Creation (M.O.C), an agency founded by former agency executives.
Kang appeared in two dramas in 2021: Doom at Your Service and Drama Special - The Effect of One Night on Farewell.
Kang made a cameo appearance as a friend of Lee Tae-hwan in the drama Thirty-Nine in 2022. Later that year, he starred as one of the main characters in the drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo, his final drama appearance before entering the military in September 2022.
Private life
Enlistment in the military
Kang was scheduled to enlist in the military, with a tentative enlistment date of August or September. He was said to be on active duty as a regular soldier.
Kang announced at a fan meeting on August 31, 2022, that he would enlist for his mandatory military service on September 20, 2022. He will receive basic military training at the 37th Infantry Division's Jeungpyeong-gun base in Chungcheongbuk-do. Following basic training, he will be assigned to the same division as an assistant training instructor.
Philanthropy
Kang donated $20 million to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association on August 10, 2022, to assist those affected by the 2022 South Korean floods.
