Beginnings and rising popularity in my career from 2006 to 2010.
Jung made his acting debut in 2006 with a minor role in the thriller The World of Silence, but he rose to prominence in the daytime family sitcom Unstoppable High Kick as a rebellious teen and motorcycle fanatic with a crush on his teacher. He then joined the cast of the 2007 romantic comedy My Love.
Jung made his feature film debut in 2009 as a young warrior fighting injustice in the historical drama The Return of Iljimae. This was followed by a supporting role as an idealistic upper-class lawyer in the romantic comedy My Fair Lady. In 2010, he made his stage debut as an HIV-positive gay man in the sold-out play Beautiful Sunday, written by Japanese playwright Mayumi Nakatani.
2011–present: Breakthrough and international acclaim
Jung made his breakthrough in the 2011 tearjerker 49 Days, playing the Scheduler, a witty modern-day Grim Reaper. His popularity grew after he starred as an arrogant, immature, yet lovable chaebol heir in the 2011 cable romantic comedy Cool Guys, Hot Ramen. Jung then played a prince who becomes his half-rival brother's in love and for the throne in the hit 2012 historical drama Moon Embracing the Sun.
Jung rose to fame as a Hallyu star after the success of Cool Guys, Hot Ramen, and Moon Embracing the Sun. He won the Asia Male Actor award at Beijing's Huading Awards, becoming the show's first non-Chinese nominee since its inception in 2005.
In Golden Rainbow, he played a prosecutor who falls in love with a girl from an orphanage from 2013 to 2014. In the supernatural period drama Diary of a Night Watchman, he played a prince turned ghost-seeing night watchman who patrols the palace after curfew and keeps the king and his citizens safe.
Jung co-starred in the 2015 Korean-Chinese web drama High-End Crush with Jin Se-yeon. The drama series received over 200 million views in less than a month. Jung then starred in the Chinese romantic comedy film Rise of a Tomboy as the CEO of an IT firm who assists a girl in developing a love formula for a mobile app.
Jung signed with HB Entertainment, a new management company, in January 2016. Jung returned to Korean television in tvN's romantic comedy Cinderella with Four Knights, playing a lonely and wild-child rebel who is not yet used to being a member of a wealthy family, having spent the majority of his life as an orphan.
Jung was the first Korean actor to land a leading role in a Thai drama, Gon Rak Game Ma Ya (also known as Love and Lies), in 2017. The drama became a local sensation, propelling Jung's popularity in the country.
Jung appeared in the historical action drama Haechi in 2019. This is his first project since joining the army.
Jung starred in the MBN historical drama Bossam: Steal the Fate in 2021.
Jung will appear in the ENA drama Good Job in 2022, marking his second reunion with Kwon Yu-ri, and will return to the big screen in November with the film Highway Family.
He attended the Milan Fashion Week 2023 FW collection Onitsuka Tiger fashion show in February 2023.

Accident in a Car
Jung was riding in the back of a car with childhood friend and fellow actor Lee Min-ho when they were involved in a serious car accident in August 2006. Their two friends in the front seat of the car were killed. Jung suffered from partial memory loss, which caused him to forget parts of his past. He observes that he remembers things like people's faces but not where they met, so he uses photographs to help him remember.
Enlistment in the military
He was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm in November 2016. Despite the fact that this would have exempted him from military service, Jung enlisted in December 2016. Jung was released from the hospital on November 30, 2018.
Jung tested positive for COVID-19 on February 3, 2022, after having completed the third dose of the vaccine. After filming for SNL Korea Season 2 on January 30 and 31, 2022, Jung was contacted by a staff member.
