Joshua Bassett Wiki, Age, Biography, Height, Girlfriend, Family, Images, And More

Joshua Taylor Bassett (born December 22, 2000) is a singer and songwriter from the United States. He is best known for playing Ricky Bowen in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Bassett was born and raised in Oceanside, California, to Taylor and Laura Bassett. He was homeschooled and has five sisters.

His first exposure to musical theater came when he was eight years old, more than a decade before he starred as Ricky in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, in a community theater production of High School Musical on Stage!. Bassett has appeared in over 30 musical productions since then. He moved to Los Angeles when he was 16 years old to pursue his acting career, initially living in his car.

Career

Bassett appeared in episodes of the television shows Lethal Weapon, Game Shakers, and Dirty John from 2017 to 2018.

In early 2018, he appeared as Aidan Peters in the third and final season of the Disney Channel comedy television series Stuck in the Middle. Bassett played Matt in a staged reading of the musical Calvin Berger in August 2018. The Hudson Backstage Theatre in Hollywood, California, hosted the production from August 10 to August 12. He was cast in his first major role, as the male lead Ricky Bowen, on Disney+'s mockumentary musical drama streaming television series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in October 2018.

Bassett appeared as Linus, a recovering teenage drug addict who is rushed to the hospital after an overdose, in the fifteenth season of Grey's Anatomy in early 2019. In July 2019, he appeared on August Kamp's song "Evergreen" from the latter's debut studio album, 19: The Musical. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered on Disney+ in November 2019. Bassett and co-star Olivia Rodrigo co-wrote the duet "Just for a Moment" for the series' soundtrack, which was released on January 10, 2020. Both his debut season and performance received positive feedback. The A.V. Club's Shannon Miller praised him for his talent, musical ability, and "handling of dramatic material," and Decider's Kayla Cobb stated that Bassett has significant romantic chemistry with Rodrigo. Bassett "will endear fans with his plucky determination to do Troy justice," according to Megan Peters of Comicbook. Bassett appeared in the Disney+ documentary special High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Special in December 2019.

Bassett signed with the talent and entertainment company United Talent Agency in early 2020, as well as a recording contract with Warner Records. On April 3, 2020, he released his debut single, "Common Sense," on music platforms. Later that month, Bassett performed "We're All In This Together" from High School Musical alongside members of the film's cast as well as cast members from the Zombies and Descendants franchises in the television special The Disney Family Singalong. He was nominated for Favorite Male TV Star at the 33rd Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in May 2020 for his role in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. "Anyone Else," Bassett's second single, was released on July 16, 2020. In August 2020, he appeared as a guest star on Nickelodeon's reality game show Unfiltered. Bassett revealed in an interview in October 2020 that he was working on his six-track debut EP, which would be released soon. Bassett appeared in the holiday special High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special in December 2020, where he performed "The Perfect Gift," an original song from the series' then-upcoming second season, and a cover of "Little Saint Nick" with Matt Cornett. The special was made available on Disney+, and both songs appeared on the accompanying soundtrack album, which was released in late November. In the same month, he told Good Morning America that his debut EP would be released in early 2021.

Bassett released "Lie Lie Lie," the lead single from his then-upcoming debut EP, on January 14, 2021, with an R3hab remix and an acoustic piano version following a month later. The song reached the top thirty on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 and the top ninety on the OOC UK Singles, marking his first appearance on both charts. Bassett shared a snippet of the song on Instagram in late 2019 under the title "I Know," when the song had not yet entered production. He followed it up with "Only a Matter Of Time," the second single from his EP, which was released on January 28, 2021. Limbo, a short film he shot in 2015, was released on Amazon Prime Video and Vimeo On Demand in February 2021. Despite the delay, the short film marked his feature film debut. Bassett portrayed Caleb, an estranged young boy who reconnects with his father, who is on a self-reflection journey. Later that month, he revealed the EP's track list, cover art, and release date. Bassett's self-titled debut EP was released on March 12, 2021. He wrote, co-produced five of the six tracks on the album, and played six instruments throughout. The EP's themes revolve around heartbreak, love, regret, and betrayal.

That same month, Bassett was nominated for Favorite Male TV Star for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series at the 34th Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. In April 2021, he held a one-night virtual concert titled "A Night with Joshua Bassett," in which he performed ten songs, including an unreleased song titled "LA" and a cover of "Drops of Jupiter," backed by a full band from Los Angeles' EastWest Studios. The virtual concert was streamed live on his website, and tickets were available for purchase in his merchandise store. It was also recorded and later made available as a concert film on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Microsoft Movies & TV. Bassett released a single titled "Feel Something" in May 2021. He co-directed the song's music video with fellow creative specialist Sarah Carpenter. Later that month, he returned to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as Ricky Bowen for the second season. Bassett wrote the Christmas-themed original song "The Perfect Gift" for the soundtrack of the sophomore season. Despite the season's mixed reaction from critics and viewers, his performance was praised. Bassett was named to Billboard's Billboard 21 Under 21 list in October 2021, which featured rising artists in the music industry under the age of 21. He released his second EP, titled "Set Me Free," "Crisis," and "Secret," in December 2021. The EP was named after the three songs, and Bassett was a co-creative director for the music videos.

Bassett released a single titled "Doppelgänger" in February 2022, co-directing the music video with YouTuber and fellow creative Elle Mills. In the music video, he appeared alongside actor and dancer Ciara Riley Wilson and social media personality Chelsey Amaro. The following month, he joined Madelyn Cline, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Michael Evans Behling, Coco Gauff, and Mxmtoon as brand ambassadors for American Eagle's "Members Always: Future Together" campaign. Bassett appeared as Anthony, the protagonist's older brother, in the Disney+ original musical comedy film Better Nate Than Ever, directed and written by Tim Federle and based on his 2013 novel of the same name, in April 2022. The film received mostly favorable reviews. According to TJ O'Connell, his performance as Anthony "This film benefits greatly from his emotional weight. While Joshua Axelrod of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote that Bassett "sells Anthony's growth as he finally begins to understand his little brother," Axelrod of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote that Bassett "sells Anthony's growth as he finally begins to understand his little brother." ". Later that month, at the 35th Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, he won Favorite Male TV Star (Kids) for his role as Ricky Bowen in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Bassett announced his eponymous debut concert tour in May 2022, with stops in the United States, Canada, and Europe. In July 2022, he appeared as a contestant on Celebrity Family Feud's ninth season, representing the nonprofit organization Make-A-Wish alongside other High School Musical: The Musical: The Series cast members. The following month, Bassett returned to High School Musical: The Musical The Series for a third season as Ricky. He wrote and produced the original song "Finally Free," which appears in the season's first episode.

Philanthropy

Bassett launched his online merchandise store in January 2021, donating 100% of the proceeds to charity. His merchandise store currently supports charities such as Bring Change to Mind, Teen Line, and Sunrise Movement. Court Appointed Special Advocates, Jack.org, The Young Feminist Fund, and A Long Walk Home are among the other charities supported by Bassett's merchandise store.

Bassett donated to mental health organizations 100% of the proceeds from his song "Crisis," the lead single from his December 2021 EP Crisis / Secret / Set Me Free. Furthermore, Bassett donated one dollar for every pre-save of said EP to mental health organizations, raising over $20,000 in total. In addition, Bassett donated a portion of the proceeds from each VIP ticket purchased for his upcoming American/European tour to a charity of the buyer's choice.

Bassett was named an ambassador for the American Eagle "Members Always: Future Together" philanthropic campaign in March 2022. The brand will award $200,000 in grants to twenty young people who are sparking change in their communities as part of this initiative. For Mental Health Awareness Month, Bassett partnered with the nonprofit organization Bring Change to Mind and spoke about mental health to local LA high school students at the organization's SoCal Summit.

Bassett was named to the Variety Power of Young Hollywood Impact List in August 2022 and was invited to a gala hosted in collaboration with Facebook Gaming. Bassett participated in a charity gaming tournament as part of the event, in which each impact list honoree chose a charity to which they would donate all of their winnings. Bassett decided to back Planned Parenthood. He won the tournament and donated $10,000 to Planned Parenthood.

Sad Songs in a Hotel Room, Bassett's third EP, was released in September 2022. The project's second single, "Lifeline," was a song dedicated to his mother, who was by his side when he was terminally ill in 2021. 100% of the proceeds from "Lifeline" went to "organizations that are a lifeline for others," according to Bassett. In addition, with the release of the single, he announced the formation of an organization called "Find My Lifeline," which will serve as a safe haven for those who do not have a friend or family member to turn to for support.

Bassett sings and plays piano, guitar, ukulele, bass, drums, and some saxophone in his spare time. During an interview on May 10, 2021, he came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Bassett became seriously ill in January 2021 and was hospitalized with septic shock and heart failure: "[The doctors] said I had a 30% chance of surviving. They said I would have been found [dead] in my apartment if I hadn't checked into the hospital within 12 hours."

Bassett revealed in an interview in August 2021 that he had dealt with negative body image issues that had progressed into "serious problems" around the time the first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series aired.

Bassett revealed sexual abuse as a child and adolescent in December 2021.
