Jennis Oprasert (Thai:, RTGS: Chennit O-prasoet, IPA: [ten.nt.prà.st], born July 4, 2000) is a former member of the Thai idol group BNK48, an international sister group of the Japanese idol girl group AKB48. She is a member of the group's original generation. Jennis also served as Team BIII's deputy captain, with Punsikorn Tiyakorn (Pun) as captain.
Career as a BNK48 member
Jennis attended the BNK48 We Need You event in 2016, which was held in 2016. and later joined the group's audition. She passed the audition to become a member of BNK48's first generation. A year later, she was picked to star in the Thai version of "365 nichi no kamihikouki," a track from BNK48's debut single "Aitakatta." She was called "" (IPA lukphî, meaning 'gang leader' in Thai) by her fans after joining BNK48, most likely due to her (then) huge biceps, no-nonsense attitude, and relatively direct communication style.
When Team BIII's creation was announced at the concert "BNK48 We Wish You! On December 24, 2017, it was also revealed that Jennis will be the team's vice-captain, with Punsikorn Tiyakorn (Pun) as captain. Jennis opted to run in the AKB48 53rd Single World Senbatsu General Election in June 2018. To commemorate the event's tenth anniversary, multinational groups were included for the first time in an AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo.
Jennis also voted in the first general election of BNK48. The final result was announced on January 26, 2019, and she was ranked second with 58,362 total vote points. Many people were surprised by the outcome because her rank in the first preliminary round was 6 and stayed thus in the second round. Jennis congratulated her supporters in her election speech, noting that "her miracle was actually her supporters."
She was one of three front-row members in BNK48's sixth single "Beginner" as a result of her election. A day later, she and other BNK48 members performed at the AKB48 Group Asia Festival 2019 in Bangkok. She was a member of the World Senbatsu (WRD48) unit and appeared in the song "End Roll" alongside Mao WeiJia (AKB48 Team SH), Shani Indira Natio (JKT48), and Abelaine Trinidad (MNL48).
Jennis remained a member of the 'Kami 7' in the BNK48's 9th single "Heavy Rotation," ranking no. 7.
Lyra, a new BNK48 unit, was announced in July 2020, with Jennis as a member, along with other BNK48 members Pun, Noey, Fond, New, and Niky. The band is a cooperation between BNK48 and Universal Music, and it will specialise in T-Pop. The unit was supposed to be trained in Los Angeles for 30 days, however it was postponed until further notice owing to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Jennis confirmed her graduation from BNK48 on October 8, 2022. Her graduation ceremony took place on December 9, 2022, and her final performance at the BNK48 Theatre took place on December 21, 2022.
As an actress
Jennis played Phrae, an abused child, in The 8th Day, a Thai suspense/thriller film, when she was eight years old. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the performance at the 18th Suphannahong National Film Awards.
In 2018, she passed the audition for the Thai TV series Be My Boy, in which she played the lead character Pony.
In 2019, she co-starred with Praewa Suthamphong (Music) in the drama film Where We Belong as Sue, the main character. Kongdej Jaturanrasmee directed the film, which will be released in Thailand on June 20, 2019. Jennis and Music also sang "Let U Go," a song from the film's soundtrack. Thai critics praised her performance highly. The film had its international premiere at the 24th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), where Jennis was awarded the Marie Claire Asia Award for 'the Rising Star Award.' She was also one of eight Asian actors/actresses to earn the 2019 International Film Festival & Awards Macao and Variety 'Asian Stars: Up Next' awards. She also received the 'Best Actress Award' at the 28th Bangkok Critics Festival.
Private life
Jennis was born on July 4, 2000, in Phetchaburi. Jennis grew up in Phetchaburi as a Thai-Chinese-Lao descendent before relocating to Bangkok when she was in Grade 4. Her primary school in Phetchaburi was Arunpradit School (Grade 1-4), and her secondary school in Bangkok was Sangsom School (Grade 4- 6). Jennis earned the National Academic Competition Award (Phet Yot Mongkut) in Thai Language in Grade 6 (2011). She attended Samsen Wittayalai School in a special class for individuals categorised as 'talented in science-mathematics' from Grade 7 to 11, before transferring to Singapore International School of Bangkok - SISB. There, she opted to make her first name 'Jennis' her nickname as well, believing that it would be simpler for foreigners to refer to her as such rather than her real Thai nickname, 'Kraten' (which means Kingfisher in Thai).
Jennis was a Chulalongkorn University student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry (International Programme). She is currently studying Management and Idol and Influencer Development at Silpakorn University's Faculty of Music.
Honours Jennis was designated as a Buddhist ambassador for the Mgha Pj Day in February 2019 by Thailand's National Office of Buddhism, together with Praewa Suthamphong (Music).
Jennis, along with three other BNK48 members who are students and graduates of Chulalongkorn University, and the BNK48 executive, got an Ananda Mahidol Day memorial pin from the One Drop Save Lives Charity Project on June 9, 2019.
