Leyla Hazal Kaya is a Turkish actress who was born on October 1, 1990. She is best known for her roles in the TV series Aşk- Memnu as Nihal Ziyagil, Feriha Sarrafoglu, Adn Feriha Koydum (2011-2012), and Filiz in Bizim Hikaye (inspired by the British TV show Shameless) (2017–2019).
Kaya grew up in Konya, Turkey, to an Alevi Muslim family from Gaziantep. She went to Gaziosmanpaşa Elementary School and graduated from the Liceo Italiano di Istanbul in 2009. She pursued her higher education at Istanbul Bilgi University. Her parents, both attorneys, divorced when she was seven years old. She was introduced to the world of art and acting at a young age, and she studied ballet and violin for seven years as a child. Kaya is fluent in Italian, English, and Turkish, in addition to her native language. She was also said to be learning German, her fourth language.
Career
Kaya began her acting career in 2006 with the television series Genco. She portrayed the role of zge (Gülay Erkaya). She had guest roles in fantasy series Acemi Cadı of Turkish version "Sabrina Teenage Witch", popular series Sıla, "Taşların Sırrı". Kaya portrayed Nihal Ziyagil in a modern-day adaptation of Halit Ziya Uşaklgil's novel Aşk- Memnu in 2008. In 2011, she made her film debut in Selçuk Aydemir's alg engi. At the same time, she studied drama with Ayla Algan. She then enrolled in Ümit rak's Modern Acting Techniques Workshop and began taking acting lessons from Ümit rak himself. Kaya played the lead character, Feriha Sarrafolu, in the first two seasons of the TV series Adn Feriha Koydum (2011). She played a porter's daughter who is trapped between two lives and falls in love with the most popular student at her university, a rich and handsome boy named "Emir Sarrafolu" (aatay Ulusoy). The series had one of Turkey's highest TV ratings. Later, she appeared in Bingo commercials with her mother, Ayşegül Kaya. She left the cast of Adn Feriha Koydum in late 2012 to star in a new series called Son Yaz Balkanlar 1912 as the character Emine. However, due to low ratings, the series was canceled after only a few episodes. She later played the character of Azra Zak, a tennis coach, in the 2013 series A..K. That show, too, ended after 13 episodes. In 2015, she co-starred in Maral: En Güzel Hikayem with Aras Bulut ynemli. Maral Erdem, the main character, was played by her. Her most recent TV show is Bizim Hikaye (in English: Our Story), a Turkish adaptation of the American television series Shameless. Kaya plays "Filiz Elibol Aktan" opposite actor Burak Deniz in this TV show. As of 2021, she co-stars in the TV series Misafir, an adaptation of the Japanese TV series Oasis, with Bugra Gulsoy and Ozan Dolunay. She has been appearing as Behzat's dead daughter "Berna" in some episodes and films of the hit crime series Behzat since 2010.
Private life
On February 6, 2019, she married actor Ali Atay and gave birth to their son later that year. In February 2023, their daughter was born.
Kaya is one of Turkey's highest-paid actresses in the media. Ichaps, who chose the most important names of 2014 in a variety of categories, named Hazal Kaya one of the "most influential names in the world" and awarded her the international excellence medal in the category of artists.
