Mr. Felix Cooper Mallard (born 20 April 1998) is a model, musician, and actor from Australia. He began his career in the soap opera Neighbours as Ben Kirk (2014–2019). Since then, he has played Cooper in the CBS comedy Happy Together (2018-2019) and Marcus Baker in the Netflix show Ginny & Georgia (2021–).
He appeared as Lucas Caravaggio in Netflix's Locke & Key (2020-2021) and Aiden in the second season of NBC's Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2021).
Mallard spent his childhood in Melbourne, Australia. He has a sibling. He was a College Prefect at Christian Brothers College, an all-boys school. In 2015, he completed the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) as well as a Technical Production course. Mallard began fencing when he was ten years old. He competed at the state and national levels, winning two bronze medals in team events at the Victorian National Championships in 2012 and finishing fifth in the under-15 National Sabre Championships in 2013. Mallard was scouted by a modeling agent at the age of 13 and signed with Vivien's Models. Several campaigns featured him, including an editorial spread in Yves Magazine. Mallard is a musician who can be found playing the guitar, piano, and drums. He plays guitar and sings in the punk rock band Enemies Alike. The band has performed in Melbourne venues, as well as at school music events and Associated Catholic Colleges' Battle of the Bands competitions.
Mallard made his acting debut at the age of 15 in 2014, playing Ben Kirk in the Australian television soap opera Neighbours for three weeks and six episodes. He got an audition through his modeling agent and unexpectedly won. He had never considered acting before, but this experience convinced him that it was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He returned the following year for another four-month visit while still in school. Following his departure from Neighbours, Mallard appeared in Travis Burns' short film Money Is Just a Barbell, which he also produced and scored. He relocated to the United States at the beginning of 2018, where he quickly landed the role of popstar Cooper James in the CBS comedy series Happy Together, alongside Damon Wayans Jr. and Amber Stevens West. Happy Together is loosely based on the experiences of English singer Harry Styles, who moved in with television producer Ben Winston and his family to get away from the spotlight after the pop band One Direction went viral. After being offered the role by Winston, the television show's producer, Mallard received phone calls from Harry Styles and James Corden, who persuaded him to accept. Mallard auditioned with an American accent at first, but was asked to change to his native Australian accent. The show premiered on October 1, 2018, but due to low ratings, CBS announced on November 28, 2018, that it would not order additional episodes beyond the initial thirteen. The show was canceled by CBS on May 10, 2019.
Mallard went on to play Lucas Caravaggio, a 17-year-old friend of Rendell Locke who died 25 years earlier after being possessed by a demon, in the Netflix horror series Locke & Key. The production began in the first half of 2019. It will be available on February 7, 2020. He appeared in All the Bright Places, a romantic drama film that began filming in October 2018 and will be released by Netflix in February 2020. The movie is based on Jennifer Niven's 2015 young adult novel of the same name.
Mallard began a recurring role as Zoey's neighbor in the second season of NBC's musical comedy-drama series Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist in 2021, as an Australian musician who recently graduated college and has returned from backpacking in Thailand. The role required a variety of songs and dancing.
Mallard appears in the Netflix dramedy Ginny & Georgia as Marcus, an edgy 15-year-old. Mallard was required to learn American Sign Language in order to play his character's deaf father. The series was shot in Toronto in the second half of 2019, and it will be released on February 24, 2021. Ginny & Georgia was renewed for a second season after its first season drew 52 million viewers in 28 days, making it Netflix's tenth most watched series. On January 5, 2023, it aired. Mallard's Instagram following increased from 90,000 to over 3 million following the show's release.
Later that year, in 2021, he returned to Locke & Key for the second season, appearing in the final episode.
