Following Smallville, he played Matthew Steed again in The Work and the Glory: American Zion, and then Jackson Patch in Dog Days of Summer. Ford portrayed Zeph in the April 2007 release of the epic adventure In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. Dart, the reindeer, was voiced by Ford in the 2007 feature film Christmas Is Here Again.

Ford portrayed Dylan in the film We Bought a Zoo, which was released in December 2011. Following the completion of We Bought a Zoo, Ford was cast as Joe McAlister in the television series Under The Dome.
