Private life
"I aspired to be a professional football player like my father, [...] But when I was in fifth grade, he told me that if I pursued that dream, he would kick me out of the house. That was the first time he expressed disapproval of something I did, and I decided to abandon the dream."
-Minho discusses his ambitions and his relationship with his father.
Choi graduated from the affiliated high school of Konkuk University on February 10, 2010. He was admitted to Konkuk's part-time admissions for the arts and culture film major in 2010 after taking the college admissions test the previous year, and graduated in 2015. Choi Yun-kyum, his father, is a well-known South Korean football coach. Choi inherited his father's talent and demonstrated it in shows such as KBS2's Our Town's Physical Variety, where he received high praise from Lee Young-pyo, a retired member of the national team. Choi also coached his team to victory at the Idol Futsal World Cup. Choi initially wanted to be a professional football player like his father, but his father disapproved of his decision, stating: "To be honest, I didn't want him to follow in my footsteps. [...] When I was playing, it was difficult to make it in that world, which was very abusive back then. I'd come home for a couple of hours before heading to training camp. It hurt me to see my son invite me to spend the night." His father also stated that, from the perspective of a football manager, he did not believe his son had what it takes to succeed in that pitch, stating that Minho is a strong-willed individual with a small frame.
