Cha Tae-hyun Wiki, Age, Biography, Height, Wife, Family, Images, And More
Cha Tae-hyun (born March 25, 1976) is a South Korean actor, singer, TV personality, radio DJ, and director. He is best known for his leading roles in the box office hits My Sassy Girl (2001), Scandal Makers (2008), Hello Ghost (2010), and fantasy drama action hit Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), as well as the television series Jeon Woo-chi (2012), The Producers (2015), and Police University (2016). (2021). With the variety-drama Hit the Top (2017), in which he also starred, he made his directorial debut.
He was a cast member of the variety show 2 Days & 1 Night from 2012 to 2019. He co-founded the talent management firm Blossom Entertainment.
1995-2000: Beginnings of a Career
Cha Tae-hyun began his career as a silver medalist in a KBS Talent Contest in 1995. Over the next few years, he would appear in a slew of TV dramas, including Sunflower and Happy Together, as well as numerous TV commercials. From 1999 to 2000, he was a radio DJ for KBS Cool FM's FM Popular Music with Cha Tae-hyun, and he made his film debut in the comedy Hallelujah.
My Sassy Girl and musical debut, 2001-2007
He rose to prominence in 2001 with the hugely successful romantic comedy My Sassy Girl, in which he co-starred with Jun Ji-hyun. Cha's expressive acting made him a recognised star in Korea and throughout the Asian region, and he expanded his fame by releasing his debut album Accident. Lovers' Concerto (2002), a tragic melodrama starring Son Ye-jin and Lee Eun-ju, was also a box office success.
However, after 2003, Cha's casting choices became less creative. He appeared in three comedies, Crazy First Love, Happy Ero Christmas, and Two Guys, which were widely panned by audiences due to their poor scripts and lack of creativity. Later that year, he released his second album, The Book.
His 2005 films, Sad Movie (with an all-star ensemble cast) and My Girl and I (with Song Hye-kyo), a remake of the Japanese hit Crying Out Love in the Center of the World, were box office flops. Highway Star, in which he starred as a masked trot singer, was a moderate success in 2007.
Cha hosted Mr. Radio on KBS Cool FM from 2007 to 2008 and was named Best Radio DJ at the 2007 KBS Entertainment Awards alongside Ahn Jae-wook. In BABO (which means "fool" in Korean), a film adaptation of Kang Full's popular online comic, he played the town's jester, who has the intelligence of a six-year-old.
From 2008 to 2012, the popularity of 2 Days & 1 Night was restored.
Cha regained his top star status when his comedy film Scandal Makers became the number one film of 2008, attracting 8.2 million moviegoers and ranking among Korea's all-time biggest hits. The story revolves around a radio talk show host who was an ex-idol who must face the unintended consequences of a love affair when he was a teen when he discovers at the age of 30 that he already has a daughter (Park Bo-young) and a grandson (Wang Seok-hyun). The advertising industry named Cha the top male celebrity endorser of 2009 as a result of the film's success.
He reunited with BABO director Kim Young-tak in 2010's Hello Ghost, a film about a man who becomes possessed by four different ghosts after several suicide attempts. With 3 million tickets sold, it was another box office success, and Cha's performance earned him the moniker "Korea's Jim Carrey."
His 2011 film Champ, based on a true story, depicts the relationship between a recently injured racehorse named Woo-bak and the jockey who tries to tame her. Cha spent time with the horse before and during filming, luring him with a carrot and sugar cube combination.
In 2012, he joined the second season of the popular variety show 2 Days & 1 Night as a regular cast member, a position he held until 2019. The show, which focuses on introducing viewers to various locations in Korea while the cast undertakes various missions, has consistently received high viewership ratings.
Continued success and directorial debut from 2013 to 2018.
Cha made his historical debut in The Grand Heist as the leader of a group of thieves from the Joseon era who banded together to steal ice. Cha Ji-hyun, his brother, produced the action-comedy film. In the TV series Jeon Woo-chi, he played the titular character, an impish Taoist wizard who becomes an unlikely hero.
Slow Video, his third collaboration with director Kim Young-tak, starred him as an introverted man with dynamic visual acuity who works at a CCTV control centre in 2014. This was followed by The Producers in 2015, in which Cha portrayed a fiery but gentle television producer.
Cha reprised his role in My New Sassy Girl, a sequel to the 2001 hit film, in 2016. However, the film failed to live up to its predecessor and was a box office flop. He reunited with My Sassy Girl co-star Jun Ji-hyun in a cameo appearance in SBS's fantasy drama The Legend of the Blue Sea the same year.
Cha appeared in the romantic comedy Because I Love You in 2017, playing a gifted composer who connects people in love; the film was produced once again by his brother Cha Ji-hyun. He then starred in and directed KBS2's variety show Hit the Top. The same year, Cha starred in the fantasy blockbuster Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds, which was based on Joo Ho-webtoon min's of the same name.
Cha starred in the 2018 remake of the Japanese television series Matrimonial Chaos, a romance drama.
2019–present
In March 2019, Cha was reported to have engaged in gambling, which was discovered through text messages on Jung Joon-phone young's during a police investigation into the latter for illicit sex video crimes. Cha later issued a formal apology and cancelled all of his upcoming shows.
Cha was cast in the crime drama Team Bulldog: Off-Duty Investigation in 2020.
Cha appeared as Yoo Dong-man, a detective-turned-professor at the National Police University, in the KBS2 drama Police University in 2021.
Cha's father, Cha Jae-wan, was an assistant director for special effects at KBS, and his mother, Choi Su-min, was a voice-over artist who is now retired.
Cha Ji-hyeon, his brother, is a film producer.
Cha married his high school sweetheart, pop lyricist Choi Suk-eun, on June 1, 2006. They were together for 13 years, and she was his first and only girlfriend. They are the parents of three children: a son (Cha Soo-chan) and two daughters (Cha Tae-eun, Cha Su-jin).
Cha revealed on the SBS talk show Healing Camp, Aren't You Happy in 2011 that he suffers from a panic disorder.
