Avinash Tiwary is a Hindi film and television series actor. He began his career in 2014 with the television series Yudh, and his first film role was in the film Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2016). He was recognized for his roles in the romance Laila Majnu (2018) and the supernatural thriller Bulbbul (2020). Tiwary appeared in the Netflix crime series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter in 2022.
Childhood and education
Avinash Tiwary was born in the Indian state of Bihar. After a few years, his family relocated to Mumbai.
In Mumbai, he completed his schooling and engineering. He dropped out of engineering studies in the fourth semester to pursue acting. He began his acting career at Barry John's studio and later attended the New York Film Academy. He began appearing in short films in 2005.
Career
In the theater, he collaborated with Om Katare, a well-known artist. Following his time at the New York Film Academy, he launched his career in 2006 with the documentary Anamika: Her Glorious Past. In 2014, he co-starred with Amitabh Bachchan in the TV series Yudh, where he played the villain, Ajat Shatru.
Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2016), a film directed by Milind Dhaimade and starring Barun Sobti and Shahana Goswami, was Avinash's Bollywood debut. The film received positive critical acclaim after its world premiere at the 60th BFI London Film Festival.
After auditioning for Imtiaz Ali's romantic film Laila Majnu in December 2015, Avinash signed on in 2017. He played Qais/Majnu in the film, which tells the classic love story of Laila and Majnu but is set in modern times. Sajid Ali directed it, and Ekta Kapoor produced it. He underwent significant physical transformation for the role and was praised for his natural performance as Majnu.
In 2019, he signed a three-film deal with Balaji Motion Pictures.
He appeared as Chandan Mahto in Neeraj Pandey's show Khakee: The Bihar Chapter in 2022. It debuted on Netflix with Karan Tacker, Abhimanyu Singh, Jatin Sarna, Ravi Kishan, and Ashutosh Rana among others. His performance, like the show, was well received by the audience and critics. "Avinash Tiwary seems to be on a roll and there seems to be no way he is going wrong at least right now," wrote Shubham Kulkarni of Koimoi. "He plays the antagonist here who is layered and does complete justice to the part."
He will next be seen in Dongri to Dubai, a web series produced by Excel Entertainment.
