Asher Dov Angel (born September 6, 2002) is an actor from the United States. He began his career as a child actor in Jessica Chastain's 2008 film Jolene. He is best known for his role as Jonah Beck in the Disney Channel series Andi Mack, which premiered in 2017. In the 2019 DC Extended Universe film Shazam!, Angel played Billy Batson. Shazam!, the 2023 sequel The Gods' Fury.

Private life

Angel was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and grew up in Paradise Valley. Jody and Coco Angel are his parents, and he is the oldest of three siblings, including a brother and a sister. He is a Jew. He can both sing and play the guitar.

Career

Angel made her film debut at the age of five in the 2008 film Jolene. Angel began his career by performing in a number of theater productions. Desert Stages Theatre held auditions for the musical Oliver! at the age of seven. Angel auditioned for and was cast in the production with his parents' permission. His mother promised to take him to Los Angeles if he "put in the work and [did] 30 [local] shows," and he went on to act in multiple plays at the Desert Stages Theatre in Scottsdale, including The Little Mermaid, Seussical, Mary Poppins, and Into the Woods. Angel's mother kept her promise, and at the age of 12, he auditioned for and won the role of Jonah Beck in the Disney Channel television series Andi Mack. His entire family relocated to Utah to accommodate the series' filming.

Angel starred as Billy Batson in the film adaptation of DC Comics' Shazam! in April 2019, alongside Zachary Levi as his adult superhero alter ego. The film, which is part of the DC Extended Universe, was met with critical acclaim. On June 6, 2019, Angel released his debut single "One Thought Away," which featured Wiz Khalifa. In Shazam!, he played Billy Batson again. Fury of the Gods, which will be available on March 17, 2023.

Angel joined the cast of Hulu's Darby and the Dead in February 2022.
