She is also known as Xiao Song Jia (, literally: "Song Jia the younger," to distinguish her from another older actress also named Song Jia).** Song Jia studied in the Shenyang Conservatory of Music^/s (SYCM) secondary school and the Shanghai Theater Academy, where she specialized in acting. Song rose to prominence for her role in ^/^/Curiosity Kills the Cat^/^/ (2006) as a manicure girl with a firm opinion on what she likes and dislikes. She received a Golden Rooster Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Song has received accolades as a versatile actor for her numerous roles as well as her accurate and sincere portrayal of each character. In the television series Memoirs of China (2008), she played Zheng Yunan, and in the film Once Upon a Time in Tibet, she played a native Tibetan girl. (2010). She was able to speak a new language with natural confidence and fluency in both roles: English and Tibetan. Her eclectic acting style is exemplified by these two drastically different yet equally hard characters. Song portrayed the lead female character Gu Qiuyan in The Brink (2012). Song displayed a nuanced character and a rich inner world within the confined tale structure, earning both the Magnolia and Golden Eagle Awards for Best Actress. Song won the Golden Rooster Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of famed Chinese writer Xiao Hong in Falling Flowers (2013), as well as the Chinese American Film Festival Gold Angel Award for Best Actress. At the Shanghai International Film Festival, this film also received the Golden Goblet Award for Best Cinematography. Song won Best Actress awards from the Macau International Film Festival^/s inaugural Gold Aries Award and the Huading Awards for her performance as a sharp-tongued waitress in a fancy Western-themed restaurant, shamed in the community because she gave birth to a son who was not fully Chinese.
