Zhu Zhu (; pinyin: Zh Zh; born July 19, 1984) is a Chinese actress and singer. She rose to prominence as an MTV China VJ.
Early years
Zhu was born on July 19, 1984, in Beijing, to a military family, with her ancestral home in Linhai, Zhejiang, as the daughter of Chinese businessman Zhu Hanbin (; ). Her grandfather, Zhu Xuzhi (1912-2000), was a People's Liberation Army major general.
Zhu began learning the piano at the age of three. She performed Beauty and the Beast, an English stage production, when she was in junior high.
Zhu received her bachelor's degree in electronics and information engineering from Beijing Technology and Business University.
From 2012 to 2013,
Zhu was in a relationship with Italian businessman Lapo Elkann.
Zhu married Wang Yunjia, a lecturer in Tsinghua University's Fine Art Department, on March 18, 2021. On September 2, 2021, they announced the birth of their first child, a daughter named Pearl.
Zhu joined MTV China in 2005 and hosted music shows on the country's domestic MTV network. After winning a local singing competition in Beijing and finishing third at the national level, Zhu was discovered by talent scouts.
Zhu signed with MBOX in 2007, and her debut album was released in 2009.
Zhu made her film debut in What Women Want, a Chinese romantic comedy starring Andy Lau and Gong Li, in 2010.
Zhu co-starred with RZA, Russell Crowe, Cung Le, Lucy Liu, Byron Mann, Rick Yune, Dave Bautista, and Jamie Chung in the American martial arts film The Man with the Iron Fists in 2012. On its first day, the film grossed million dollars.
Zhu appeared in five films in 2012, including Shanghai Calling, Secret Sharer, and Cloud Atlas.
Zhu appeared as a supporting actor in Lu Chuan's 2014 romantic comedy film The Old Cinderella.
Zhu starred as the female lead in the 2014 film Last Flight, alongside Ed Westwick and Leon Lee and Cary Alexander.
Zhu began starring in the American TV series Marco Polo in 2014, which debuted on Netflix in December 2014.
In 2016, Zhu agreed to star in Tubelight, a Bollywood historical war drama starring Salman Khan. Kabir Khan directed the film, which was released on Eid 2017. It was her first appearance in Bollywood. She arrived in Mumbai on August 3, 2016, determined to learn Hindi as soon as possible.
