Zareen Khan, commonly known as Zarine Khan, is an Indian actress and model who was born on May 14, 1987. She has primarily worked in the Hindi cinema industry, but she has also acted in films in Punjabi, Telugu, and Tamil.
Khan made her Bollywood debut in 2010 as a princess in the epic action film Veer, and she later appeared in the 2011 comedy Ready in the hit item number "Character Dheela." She made her breakthrough as a gorgeous model in the 2012 comedy Housefull 2, which remains her highest-grossing picture to date. The next year, she made her Tamil film debut with the item number Malgove in Naan Rajavaga Pogiren. After starring in the Punjabi film Jatt James Bond in 2014, she returned to Bollywood with the 2015 sensual thriller Hate Story 3. Khan made his Telugu film debut in 2019 with the action thriller Chanakya.
Zareen Khan was born on May 14, 1987, in Mumbai, India, into a Pathan family. She finished her intermediate studies at Rizvi College of Science in Mumbai.
Career Highlights 2010-2011: Film Debut and Early Work
Khan's acting career began while visiting the set of Yuvraj at Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods film school. Salman Khan saw her and chose to cast her in his pal Anil Sharma's film Veer because "she looks the character - the sweet princess she is playing in Veer," he remarked. Khan was cast in the lead role of Princess Yashodhara after a screen test. She put on eight kg to look more like a 19th-century princess. The plot centres around the 1825 Pindari movement in Rajasthan, during the British rule of India. Veer did not perform well at the box office, but her performance earned mixed reviews from reviewers and audiences alike. According to Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama, "Zarine resembles Katrina Kaif, but wears one expression throughout." The Times of India's Nikhat Kazmi said, "Zarine is unimpressive." According to Rediff.com, "Zarine is average." Subhash K. Jha, a critic, praised her performance, saying, "Zarine's charm adds to her adorable screen presence." For her performance in the film, Khan was nominated for a Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.
In 2011, Khan and Salman Khan sang the item number "Character Dheela" in Anees Bazmee's Ready, which parodied characters from Mughal-e-Azam, Sholay, and Shri 420 and was the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2011.
2012-2013: Groundbreaking
At the 2012 India International Jewellery Week (IIJW), Khan walked the runway as the showstopper for jewellery company YS18.
Sajid Khan's second release was Housefull 2, a sequel to Housefull and a Hindi version of the Malayalam film Mattupetti Machan. The plot centres around two cousins Henna and Bobby, the two daughters of the Kapoor family who despise each other, a model JLo, Jolly's love interest, and four best friends Sunny, Max, Jolly, and Jai who fall in love with her. Khan portrayed JLo, a model who falls in love with Jolly, played by Ritesh Deshmukh, in the film, which also starred Akshay Kumar, Asin, John Abraham, and Jacqueline Fernandez. Khan's performance received critical appreciation, with Taran Adarsh remarking, "Zarine act more as eye candy." She appears to be her usual sultry and tempting self, and she is at ease in her own company." Housefull 2 was one of the top-grossing Bollywood films of 2012.
Khan made her Tamil debut in Vetrimaaran's Naan Rajavaga Pogiren in 2013, performing an item number in the song "Malgove" with Nakul Jaidev. She was praised for her song. "Zarine Khan's song is high on energy," Taran Adarsh said.
2014-present: Transition to leadership roles
Khan's first 2014 release was Rohit Jugraj's Punjabi film Jatt James Bond, which marked her first role outside of Bollywood. Along with Gippy Grewal, she played Lalli, an innocent Punjabi housewife. Critics complimented her portrayal in the picture, which earned excellent reviews. "Zarine Khan delivers an award-winning performance," noted film reviewer Komal Nahta. She is excellent and completely inhabits the role of Lalli, making every scene in which she appears a must-see for her brilliance!"
Khan starred as Siya in the sensual thriller film Hate Story 3 in 2015. The film was a commercial success, bringing Khan even more attention. She then appeared with Ali Fazal in the music video "Pyaar Manga Hai." Armaan Malik and Neeti Mohan sang the song. Khan performed an item number in the 2016 film Veerappan. She also appeared in another item song, "Mahi Ve," in the film Wajah Tum Ho the same year.
Khan appears in Aksar 2 in 2017. She was seen romancing Gautam Rode in the film, and the first poster was revealed on YouTube on August 4, 2017. ''Zareen Khan does excellent in portions, but alas she is mostly employed for the skin display,'' noted Umesh Punwani of Koimoi.com. ''Even after years in Bollywood, she still can't correctly emote her expressions.'' ''Zareen Khan is strictly okay and though she is hot, it's done solely for the heck of it,'' observed Bollywood Hungama of Khan's performance. She tries to be Emraan Hashmi's female counterpart, but it doesn't work for her. She doesn't give her all in terms of performance.'' The movie did not do well at the box office.
Khan appeared in Vikram Bhatt's horror thriller 1921, the fourth episode in the 1920 film series, in 2018. According to Shikta Sanyal of Koimoi.com, it was ''Khan's best performance to date.'' Despite receiving mediocre reviews, the film was able to recoup its costs and become a ''average grosser.'' In January 2018, Khan signed on to star in Ashok Nanda's action flick One Day: Justice Delivered as a police officer. Esha Gupta subsequently took her place.
She made her Telugu debut in 2019 with the action-thriller film Chanakya, which received mixed reviews and did poorly at the box office. The same year, she co-starred in the Punjabi film Daaka with Gippy Grewal, which garnered mediocre reviews.
Khan will next appear in Anshuman Jha's film Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele, which centres around a unique love story involving two gays and is set to be released in 2020.
