Yui Aragaki (Hepburn: Aragaki Yui, born June 11, 1988) is a Japanese actress, model, singer, and radio show host. In Oricon's annual survey, she has been named the most sought girlfriend and the most desired female celebrity face multiple times.
Early years
She was born in Naha, Okinawa, on June 11, 1988. She is the younger of two siblings. She applied after noticing an audition announcement for the junior fashion magazine Nicola (, Nikora) and earned the Grand Prix award for the audition. She began her Nicola modeling career in 2001, at the age of 13, and was very well welcomed as a Nicola model, setting a record for appearing the cover 15 times. One of her co-models, actress Enomoto Ayako, nicknamed her 'Gakky' after her surname. She went to Tokyo at the age of 15 and enrolled at Horikoshi High School, which is well-known for being the academic home of many renowned people, including Seiko Matsuda. In 2005, she made her acting debut in Shibuya. She also got well-known after appearing in Pocky advertisements. She also started doing voice acting in 2006 and movies in 2007. According to other sources, the negative reactions to her vocals cause tension. She has, however, continued to act on both the little and big screens and has recorded new music. She also hosted the radio show Girls Locks, which aired from 2010 to 2012.
Aragaki came to Tokyo at the age of 15 and enrolled in Horikoshi High School, a prestigious private high school attended by many Japanese superstars. In 2004, she chose to put her Nicola career on hold and pursue a career in gravure and acting. She also featured in variety shows and commercials, the most well-known of which were her Pocky ads. She graduated from Nicola one year later. Nonetheless, she appears in the publication on occasion.
Aragaki began her career in 2005, when she landed a role in the TBS drama Dragon Zakura, with Japanese celebrities such as Tomohisa Yamashita and Masami Nagasawa. This was a watershed moment in her acting career. She has since appeared in a number of other dramas, including My Boss, My Hero, and Gal Circle. She also starred in the 2007 box office smash Koizora, for which she received her first award, the Nikkan Sports Film Award for Best Newcomer. She currently holds five newbie honors.
In 2008, Aragaki won the Film award at the 45th Golden Arrow Awards. Her hectic schedule of film shooting, as well as the preparation for her debut album, caused her to experience work-related stress in 2007. She was asked to judge the 58th NHK Khaku Uta Gassen.
Aside from acting, she published her first album, Sora, as well as the single "Heavenly Days," a song from Koizora. The theme song for Tokyo Serendipity, "Memories," was included on her debut album. She also appeared at the Budokan.
In addition, from 2010 to 2012, she co-hosted the popular radio show Girls Locks. She was also asked to headline the 54th Japan Record Awards.
She co-starred in the comedic hit Legal High with Masato Sakai from 2012 to 2013.
In the 2014 film Twilight Sasarasaya, she played a mother for the first time.
In 2016, she portrayed an ideal wife in the film The Full-Time Wife Escapist, which sparked a social debate in Japan. She also did the "koi dance" at the finale of the drama, which went viral in Japan. She was asked to judge again in the 67th NHK Khaku Uta Gassen.
Aragaki Yui played Masako Matsushita in Kizuna: hashire kiseki no kouma, also known as Ties: A Miraculous Colt, in 2017. It was televised on NHK, and the story is about her nurturing the young horses with her father after the disaster. During the same year, in July, Code Blue Season 3 was finally published after 7 years of broadcasting the second season. Aragaaki Yui appeared as Tamako Tomita in Junichi Ishikawa's Mixed Doubles in October.
At the 60th Blue Ribbon Awards, Aragaki Yui was named best actress.
