Yang Mi (born September 12, 1986) is a Chinese actress and singer. She made her acting debut in the historical television series Tang Ming Huang, and went on to win awards for her leading roles in Wang Zhaojun (2007), Chinese Paladin 3 (2009), Palace 1 (2011), Beijing Love Story (2012), Swords of Legends (2014), The Interpreter (2016), Eternal Love (2017), and Legend of Fuyao (2018), as well as films Mysterious Island (2011), Tiny Times (2013-2015), and The Witness (2016). (2015). She earned Best Actress at the WorldFest Houston International Festival in 2017 for her work in Reset. (2017).
Yang was named one of the New Four Dan Actresses by Southern Metropolis Daily.
Yang Mi was born in Beijing's Xuanwu District to a police officer and a housewife. Because her parents share the surname Yang, she was given the name "" (exponentiation). She received her diploma from the now-defunct Beijing Xuanwu Experimental Primary School. Yang is also a Performance Institute graduate of the Beijing Film Academy.
Career Beginnings
Yang made her acting debut at the age of four in the historical television series Tang Ming Huang, directed by Chen Jialin, as child Princess Xianning. She also played Beggar So's daughter in King of Beggars (1992), starring Stephen Chow as the eponymous character. Two years later, she appeared in the television series Hou Wa, where her performance made an indelible impression on the producer.
Yang returned to the entertainment industry in 2001 as an advertisement model. Yang got a deal with Li Shaohong's agency, Rosat Entertainment, in 2002. Yang obtained her first script in 2003 and made her professional acting debut in The Story of a Noble Family.
From 2006 to 2010, there was an increase in popularity.
Yang rose to prominence in the late 2000s for her roles as Nie Xiaoqian in the legendary drama Strange Tales of Liaozhai (2005) and Guo Xiang in the wuxia drama The Return of the Condor Heroes. (2006), Yang performed the titular character of Wang Zhaojun in the eypnomous television series, which aired on CCTV in 2007. She garnered great feedback for her portrayal and was nominated for the China TV Golden Eagle Award for Best Actress.
Yang appeared in the 2009 fantasy action drama Chinese Paladin 3 as two different roles, Tang Xuejian and Xiyao. The series was a huge success in China, and Yang's popularity skyrocketed.
Yang garnered favorable reviews for her depiction of Qingwen in Li Shaohong's rendition of the classic novel The Dream of Red Mansions in 2010. The same year, she was cast as a chilly assassin in the big-budget historical series Beauty's Rival in Palace.
Breakthrough and mainstream success from 2011 to 2016
Yang rose to prominence in 2011 as the time-traveling protagonist in the hit historical romance drama Palace. (2011). At the 17th Shanghai Television Festival, she was selected Most Popular Actress. Yang's theme song for the drama, "In Support of the Love," was also a smash, winning Best Theme Song (OST) at the 6th Huading Awards. The same year, she starred in the horror film Mysterious Island, which grossed more than 70 million yuan at the box office and went on to become China's most successful horror film.
Due to the box office success of Mysterious Island, Mei Ah Entertainment stated that it will produce four tailored-made films (Wu Dang, Chinese Princess Turandot, Windseeker, and Butterfly Cemetery) for Yang, with a total investment of 300 million yuan for the four films. However, the films fell short of Mysterious Island's success, and Yang was awarded Most Disappointing Actress at the Golden Broom Awards for her performance in Wu Dang.
Yang appeared in Beijing Love Story, a modern romance drama directed by Chen Sicheng, in 2012, as a conceited gold digger. The show was a success, and Yang was named Most Popular Actress at the 9th China Golden Eagle TV Arts Festival. She co-starred in Painted Skin: The Resurrection, a sequel to Gordon Chan's 2008 smash fantasy film Painted Skin, the same year.
Yang was then cast as the lead character Lin Xiao in the Tiny Times film series, which is based on Guo Jingming's best-selling novel of the same name. The film's first two installments were released in 2013, with future installments following in 2014 and 2015. Despite garnering unfavorable reviews, Tiny Times was a huge box office hit. Yang also made her debut as a television producer in 2013 with the web series V Love.
Yang appeared in Deng Chao's comedy film The Breakup Guru in 2014. The picture grossed 180 million yuan in its first week and went on to become one of China's highest-grossing films that year. She then played the female lead, Feng Qingxue, in the fantasy action drama Swords of Legends. The program was a commercial success, topping television ratings and quickly becoming the most watched Chinese drama online.
Yang appeared in the 2015 romantic films You Are My Sunshine with Huang Xiaoming and Fall in Love Like a Star with Li Yifeng. She also played a blind girl in The Witness, a film based on the South Korean thriller Blind.
Yang appeared in the modern drama The Interpreter, which broadcast on Hunan TV in 2016. The show was a great hit, being the highest-rated drama of 2016. She also appeared in Tiny Times director Guo Jingming's fantasy animated film L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties.
2017–present: acclaim from the critics
Yang appeared in the 2017 film Eternal Love, which was based on TangQi GongZi's xianxia novel Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. Yang gained recognition for her acting performance in the fantasy-romance drama, which was a huge hit both domestically and internationally. She subsequently starred in Jackie Chan's science fiction thriller Reset, for which she won Best Actress at the 50th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. Yang then appeared as a painter with Chang Chen in the wuxia film Brotherhood of Blades II: The Infernal Battlefield. She was ranked third on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list this year, her highest rating to date.
Yang appeared in Negotiator, a modern workplace drama about the profession of negotiators, in 2018. Yang went on to star in the fantasy adventure drama Legend of Fuyao. Yang returned to the big screen in Liu Jie's Baby, a film about a lady who was abandoned by her parents owing to serious birth problems, and her battle as an adult to save another baby in the same predicament. Her portrayal of a brittle, hurried working-class woman prematurely aged by illness and poverty earned great feedback. The following year, she was cast as an antagonist in the fantasy suspense film Assassin in Red, directed by Lu Yang.
Yang appeared in the period drama The Great Craftsman in 2019. Yang appeared as a police officer in the cyber-security thriller Storm Eye and as a physician in the medical drama Thank You Doctor.
Yang was cast in the historical fantasy drama Novoland: Pearl Eclipse in 2020.

Yang Mi has had her own agency, Jay Walk Studio, in cooperation with H&R Century Pictures since 2014.
Private life
Yang Mi disclosed her romance with Hong Kong actor-singer Hawick Lau on Weibo in early 2012. She announced their engagement in November 2013. Yang Mi and Hawick Lau married on January 8, 2014 in Bali, Indonesia.
She gave birth to their daughter Noemie Lau on June 1, 2014, at the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital in Hong Kong.
Yang Mi and Hawick Lau divorced on December 22, 2018, according to a joint statement made by Chinese entertainment and media conglomerate Jiaxing Media.
Politics On March 25, 2021, Yang Mi severed connections with Adidas when numerous companies, including the brand, made a decision not to utilize cotton grown from the Xinjiang area owing to Uyghur forced labor concerns. The majority of Chinese celebs followed suit.
