Yan Ni (simplified Chinese: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Yán N; born 10 March 1971 in Xi'an, Shaanxi), was born Yan Kaiyan (simplified Chinese: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Yán Ki Yàn). She works for the People's Liberation Army Air Force's Television Art Center. In 2015, Li was placed 54th on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list.
Biography
Yan Ni was born in the Chinese city of Xi'an, Shaanxi. Yan's parents are regular employees, and her entire family still resides in Xi'an. She attended a finance college after high school to study accounting. Two years later, she was accepted into a People's Liberation Army (PLA) art organization in Lanzhou, and she eventually enrolled at the PLA's Art School in Beijing.
Yan began performing in 1992. In 1999, she made her film debut as Qiqoqiqo Ma in the film Cog and Hen. Yan gained to prominence as Tong Xiangyu in My Own Swordsman, an 80-episode TV comedy-drama about events at a pub during the Ming Dynasty. After My Own Swordsman, she played Xiang Yunxiu's secretary in National Action and Niu Xianhua in The North Wind. Yan received a Golden Eagle Award for her performance in The Wind From North in 2010.
Yan appeared as a supporting actor in Dayyan Eng's bilingual film Inseparable, starring Oscar winner Kevin Spacey, in 2011. The film premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and was released in China and other countries around the world. She reteamed with The North Wind co-star Xia Yu and director Dayyan Eng in 2017 to star in the fantasy/comedy Wished, which debuted at the box office with the highest audience scores across the top four ticketing platforms for local Chinese comedies released that summer.
Yan will next be featured in the Hong Kong film Reindeer, co-starring Hu Ge, in 2021.
Yan is married and has a daughter who is also an actor.
