Whoopi Goldberg hopes to bring about the long-awaited sequel in SISTER ACT 3

Whoopi Goldberg hopes to bring about the long-awaited sequel in SISTER ACT 3

According to Whoopi Goldberg, the third Sister Act movie is still anticipated to be released on Disney Plus.

Never say never. As cliché as it may sound, Bette Midler just released a follow-up to the initial box office flop Hocus Pocus from 1993, which was released nearly three decades ago. That movie is already scheduled to air on Disney Plus soon. Similar to this, Whoopi Goldberg's Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit had a mixed reception at the box office, especially when compared to the domestic take of the first movie in the series. The 1992 original Sister Act made approximately $140 million, but the follow-up only made $57 million. But now, some 30 years after the second movie's debut, Goldberg has indicated that a third instalment in her comedic film series may actually materialise.

Jenifer Lewis recently made an appearance on Whoopi Goldberg's talk show "The View." Both Goldberg and Lewis expressed their excitement about the potential release of the third film. Lewis was present in each Sister Act movie. For the roles in each of the aforementioned comedic films, she also assisted Goldberg in discovering her singing voice. This project appears to be something that both would want to see happen and that could and should happen with certainty.

While the specifics of the film's narrative are still being kept under wraps, Tyler Perry and Goldberg herself have both expressed interest in producing the third Sister Act film. Fans of Goldberg, who was in the height of her popularity when the original movie came out, would undoubtedly be interested in this idea. Goldberg had recently won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1991 for her performance in Ghost, a critically praised smash movie from 1990.

In 1992, Sister Act got the coveted "A" CinemaScore rating, while the 1993 follow-up, which was admittedly rushed to theatres, garnered a still-respectable "A-." The second movie's grade gave no sign that audiences had grown weary of the subject matter, but its underwhelming box office performance helped put any plans for a third movie to bed. The third movie now appears to be a probable possibility, though.

If a third Sister Act movie were to be produced, Whoopi Goldberg would successfully make a comeback. The first film had a woman who was concealing away as a nun, and it gave spectators a tonne of hearty laughs. A third instalment in the series would at first seem like it's too little, too late, but audiences who cherished the first two films would relish seeing Goldberg back in action in a role that helped made her a popular box office draw as a standalone actor.
