Chinese actress Tong Yao, also known as Tanya Tong, was born on August 11, 1985. She is best known for her roles as Chen Shu in A Big Deal (2011), May in Snowfall in Taipei (2012), and Annie Yang in To Love Somebody (2014). On television, she has received praise for her performances as Meng Xizi in Militia Ge Erdan (2012), Zhou Xiaobei in Three Bosom Girls (2014), Song Renping in Like a Flowing River (2018), (2020).

Tong was conceived on August 11, 1985, in Kunming, Yunnan.
Education She enrolled at Beijing's Chinese Song and Dance Art School in 1996. When she was admitted to Kunming Art School the next year, she moved back to Kunming. The Hulusi, a free reed wind instrument from China and the Shan State, took her a year to study. She began studying acting at the Central Academy of Drama in 2002.
Career In the 2002 television series Tracks In The Snowy Forest, Tong made her acting debut as Bai Ru, a nurse in the Northeast Democratic United Army.
My Sun, Walking Duster, and Life of Dragon and Tiger were among Tong's television credits in 2006. In the historical television series The Young Warriors, she played Pan Ying in a minor role.
In Moonlight Lady (2007), a historical television series based on the real-life of Song era poet Li Qingzhao, Tong made a brief cameo appearance. She also made appearances in I Want to Understand You and Repeat an Error in the same year.
She made her acting debut in the 2008 romantic comedy Afraid to Say Love You, which she co-starred in with Lin Shen. The next year, Tong portrayed the role of You Erjie in the movie Nine Dragon Jade.

She portrayed Li Chen's love interest in the television show Boys to Men in 2015.
She served as the star of three television shows in 2016: Stepmother Xu Duoduo, My Spicy Girlfriend, and Customize Happiness.
Alongside Wallace Huo and Zhou Xun, Tong played a pivotal supporting role in the historical drama Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace in 2018. She became well-known for playing Gao Xiyue in the role. She appeared in the historical drama Like a Flowing River that same year. She won Best Supporting Actress at the Magnolia Awards for her performance.
Tong was chosen to play a female lead in the 2019 drama Nothing But Thirty.
Tong started shooting the spy drama The Rebel in 2020.
