When he was 12 years old, Tom Felton was cast as the life-altering Draco Malfoy in "Harry Potter," and he continued to portray Harry's sneering adversary in all eight films.
Felton was friendly with his castmates, especially Emma Watson, despite their on-screen rivalry.
Felton told CBS News, "We've always had a kind of crazy love together." Not in the romantic sense that some would have you believe.
He referred to them as "the best of friends" and said they were "people that speak the same language," even when it comes to humour.
In his new memoir, "Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard," the actor talked openly about this and a variety of other subjects.
In 2010, the series' filming came to an end. Felton, though, admitted that it is still difficult to recall his final days on set: "It was a really bittersweet goodbye."
Felton relocated to Los Angeles in 2012 after a decade of portraying Draco. There, he became enamoured with the L.A. way of life and began to drink heavily. His family and friends attempted to intervene to help, but it was his lawyer's advice that really resonated with him.
"He reportedly said, "Tom, I believe this is the 12th intervention I've attended, and six of those are dead." Avoid becoming the eighth; "Felton remembered. That struck me in a way.
When he finally got free and went to a nearby beach one night after agreeing to go to rehab, "a lot clicked." He accepted that he required assistance after realising his need for it.
Felton finally made his way back to London, where he has since thrived and where Harry Potter continues to play a significant role in his life.
I'm the first to rejoice and express my gratitude for the Potter fandom's continued existence, Felton stated.
